So I've been thinking about Japan a lot lately....

Not being rude or anything but.. It will be your own choice regardless of what others think you should do.

Like if I ask you "Should I buy a drink?"

Me too. I went on honeymoon last year but really want to go again. I'm considering divorcing my wife and remarrying her so our family and friends will pay for another trip :)

Well, list pros & cons and maybe we can help in the decision?

If I recall correctly you were severely hit by the earthquake in 2011 and were MIA for quite some time, I remember there was a thread going on for everyone trying to check in on the board members that lived in Japan. That did affect your business quite a bit right?

(please correct me if I am mixing up events with another forum member XD)

I just left. Still on my mind a lot, but I'm luckily someone that can remember the sour as well as the sweet. Not moving back for quite some time. I'm keeping my visa alive though!

I saw my post was 1,777....lucky numbers....heh. After I wrote this I went to the picture area and the first set of pictures I saw were Yakumo's of my old home town. Sign #2....

Yeah, I lost everything in a fire. I stayed for another 6 months and moved back home. I have sisters and nieces/nephews that I really didn't know very well since I had been in Japan for 12 years. I was also getting older and thought chances for retirement in the US would be better, but the job market here for my skills in my location is pretty bad. It's been three years and I'm still mostly where I was when I landed.

I decided I wanted to go back to school to study computers. I already have a degree in business so I've settled on MIS. They have courses available online...which got me thinking.... If I'm going to be in school again for 2 years online, why not do it from Japan? Easy teaching money, side sales with eBay, better stability. I could study Japanese again and maybe work in the field either in Japan or in the US. Either way it seems more stable than real estate.

I'd move to Yokohama because I have friends there. Getting a place would be easy and I could stock it from Yahoo Auctions on the cheap.

If I had the chance to go to Japan, I'd take it.

Not that my advice is worth anything, but from the stuff I've seen about you on the internet (I used to love your website and writeups on ancient hardware), I'd say I know what you like and the type of person you probably are.

I say you should go, and I read you as really wanting to, as well.

    What do you think?

I would go for it. I'd for sure buy stuff from your web shop too if you decide to open another one!

If you're going to do an online degree, it doesn't matter where you do it, and yes, the easy money teaching helps. There is *WAY* more opportunity in the US for a job when you finish though.

The other thing is that if I go for a master's in MIS then I could teach at a uni in Japan....sweet hours and pay.

You have to have a Master's or be in the process of getting a Master's to be able to teach at universities in Japan. They are famous for low hours (20 or so a week) and high pay.
