http://rsch1.ml.com/9093/24013/ds/276873_0.PDF Full report there. They also think Sony may delay a US launch untill 2007. Obviously Sony wouldn't turn around and *sell* the system for $900 as they are always sold at a loss (not counting Nintendo ;p) but I still have to question how much of a deal Sony will pass on to consumers.....a $499 MSRP is starting to sound like a minimum!
By that time, Blu-Ray disc players will cost below $200 and the price on the media should drop by that time well to make a viable option instead of DVD for high-end users. This means that Sony will most likely sell it at $300 like the PS2. $100 more and you get to play games on a Blu-Ray Disc player. Of course, this is all speculation.
I read an article saying that after launch, the price will drop dramatically over like 2 years to produce. so they will ovbiously sell at a loss, then slowly make it back up with lower production prices and blu ray license fees.
I know sony won't sell it for $900 if they did they wouldn't sell very many units I think that $499 sounds more like it. I think $499 is expensive still if it was $399 they would attract a larger audience, The ps3 will be the first next gen system that I buy but I doubt I'll buy it on release because of all the times that I had to return my psp due to problems. On the second or third batch I will probably get a ps3 if everything is running smooth( (it will be). I hope the online is as good as I've read it will be if they have a good online service I really think they can be xbox.
I'm starting to feel bad for Sony, but I doubt that they will push back the ship date for to long. That would be suicide and although Sony has done some stupid things before I don't think they or anyone could deal with those kind of repurcussions. This is kind of making me think that a lot of the hype surrounding PS3's power was not to badly exaggerated.
Yeah, no kidding. I always wait a while until the first few runs are out, so as to not get a system that will explode on me. Obviously this is an over estimate, there's no way the thing will actually retail for $900. I'm sure it'll probably cost the same as the 360 at launch, around $500 or so to get the full package. That seems to be the standard with new game systems anyway.
I just wonder how many people will actually keep saying this is how much the ps3 will cost...the consumer. I've already been to two boards where people are up in arms over reading the article wrong.
I don't think the PS3 will sell for $500. I think somewhere between $300-$400 is more likely. I also don't see them postponing till 2007 for a number of reasons. 1. Sony wants a holiday season launch and doesn't want to wait an extra year. 2. Sony wants to get Blu-Ray out to win the HD format wars and the PS3 is the best way to do it. 3. Sony doesn't want people to get tired of waiting and use their PS3 money to buy a buy a 360. 4. Microsoft is more likely to lure more top titles form developers to the 360. 5. If they wait Microsoft will be more likely to hit them with a 360 price drop when the PS3 launches. 6. If they wait Microsoft will be more likely to hit them with Halo 3 when the PS3 launches. And that's just off the top of my head.
Wait and see i don't think it will be out this year in the US. It will be out in japan in limited numbers and each machine will be riddled with defects. Then We will get it march of 07 and europe will be october 07.
am i the only one that said to himself "who the hell is that Merrill Lynch?" After reading the tittle?
Nah, I say $400 for the el-cheapo version and $500 for the "OMG it haz everything!!!1" one. Sony been too stupid lately? you can bet your ass it is! after the huge PSP flop I think the PS3 is going to be the last console from sony.
Yes, same as xbox 360 launch prices PSP flop? it is doing very well in North America, so because psp isnt doing they well or as good as Sony would like it to be, you feel ps3 will be the last console from Sony?
One of the largest investment banking corporations in the United States. They publish information to their investors on wether or not a company is a good investment. They always analize a console manufacturer before a launch and try to estimate the cost. They're usually pretty damn close. Like within $10 close.
i think you may go a bit too far. Remember that people said the same thing with nintendo in the past.
The X360 prices were $100 less, but just becos it didnt had HDDVD. And yes, if you think about it the PSP has flopped since we all expected it would kick the DS ass in a second, while right now is only selling for the hype (like the ipod) and the homebrew (in the gamer sector) but not for having "great games". And whos fault is it? well sony's, cuz they could release a butt-load of games but they decided to chill out like if people were going to buy the thing just to admire it. If they make the same mistakes with the PS3 I dont see how they could beat the X360. Dunno, but this reminds me a lot to the N64 first years.
i thought people buyed the ipod because it acheived to be a symbol in a new technology due to its innovation, and because its stylish but maybe thats just me. edit: and no, i will never buy an ipod.
Wow, news to me PSP flopped... I dont understand what you mean at all with PS3 going to be last console from Sony, and how does this tie in with N64 ? The system isnt even out yet how can you compair it to the launch of another system?
