He's not retiring but it looks like he's getting ready to pass the torch and do so in a few years http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/12/miyamoto-interview/
I'm not Miyamoto but after all he's done and accomplished, I probably would have retired by now and taken a break. That's me though. I understand it's his life and passion but he's done more than his fair share for all of us.
Look I hate what Nintendo has become but Miyamoto is a Bill gates, a Steve Jobs, a Walt Disney, A Miazaki. Show some respect without him there'd BE NO INDUSTRY
That is a bit short-sighted. I simply do not care for the man nor (most of) his body of work and influence on the industry.
I thought Miyamoto wound done years ago, ever since Mario 64 it has been downhill all the way. A number of games he is credited with, he had very little input in. Always imagine him in the office, signing bits of paper, writing a few emails, drawing a few things and getting favours from the Nintendo OLs. Although he has designed some great games, I always argue that apart from a couple of games most are just good games rather then ground breaking games.
No one is talking about this probably because there is nothing to say - people get old, shit happens. People also miss the the small stuff after working at the grand scale for some time - it is the beginning of the end of the cycle, it is only natural. Personally Miyamoto's career ended for me with the death of the Nintendo 64, though that is probably because I didn't have a good stake in the GameCube and Wii Eras by going for Xbox and PlayStation 3 respectively.
