Well, after some extensive research on the Tiger Game.Com I found out that Tiger once had a Newsgroup for the Game.com called alt.games.video.tiger.game-com. It used to contain hobbyist stuff and discussions about the Game.com. It was quite active back then but now the question is does anyone want to know what happened to it? I'll be checking it out sooner or later just for the sake of curiosity. And I will post later my experience on the newsgroup.
Yes the newsgroup is not just full of spam but also some creepy arse stuff like something about porn and heart surgery.
Yeah, that was the plague of Usenet back then. It was awesome through the mid 90s (I think), then the spammers and con-artists discovered it, then 1000s upon 1000s of spam crap flooded every group daily... More so in the alt. hierarchy than rec., but if the group wasn't actively moderated, this crap was all over... Makes it hard to weed out stuff, although for game.com you could probably search the entire group for things like 'game.com', that should bypass most of the crap (but I'm sure it won't find every legit post either...) Anyone know if there are any usenet servers still running that have NNTP access and every post made to the newsgroups since they started? (obviously not the binary ones) I'd love to be able to just download an entire newsgroup to my computer to have it locally. Some of the alt.fan.[celebrityName] were really fun (like Douglas Adams, when he started personally posting to the group) It'd be nice to have some of these groups in a normal News reader... It's fun reading about people about the 'brand new Commodore 64' or some vintage handheld game that just came out... Last time I tried Google News it just sucked when it came to trying to do searches and stuff...
Interesting tidbit found in this archive. It's a post from a user named "Tiger Gcom" who appears to have been the active rep from Tiger Electronics communicating with fans on the newsgroup: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.games.video.tiger.game-com/xm_deqKNsBM So it would seem that at some point an actual short quicktime video of the Game.com Metal Gear Solid title was shared with newsgroup members who requested it. Wonder if it survived at all...
wow thats awesome would love to see that.. i have a game.com i only really played resident evil 2 on it but i did buy mortal kombat trilogy for it, planned on playing 2 player with my brother, but makes me wonder if the claire file of Re2 game.com was ever developed partially would be cool to see, as for metal gear solid i can only wonder what that might look like on there......most likely horrible would be cool if you found someone who still had the footage
I don't think there's any question as to the poor quality of the system and its games. But given the big-name licenses Tiger managed to secure for it, and the large number of titles that went unreleased, I think it remains an intriguing oddity. For me at least, it's a very interesting topic.
There is a brief list on Wikipedia. I don't know if it is missing something but here it is: A Bug's Life Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Command & Conquer: Red Alert Furbyland The Legend of the Lost Creator Metal Gear Solid NBA Hangtime Shadow Madness WCW Whiplash
Good list, Gladius. But there were even more than that! In addition to the ones you listed, here's a few more: -Gigapets Deluxe -Holyfield Boxing -Madden '99 -Name That Tune -NBA Live '99 -Godzilla -Mutoids -Small Soldiers -Turok -X-Files There were additional titles in development or even completed that were never even announced.
