I thought I knew a little about HD but in reality I'm not ever sure about the set-up that I have. I have a 32" Toshiba widescreen regular TV. It has a D3 input on back and that's what I plug my 360 into. That's supposed to be 720, right? I switched the XBOX 360 cables to the HD setting and now when I turn it on my TV says 1080i on the screen during boot. The picture quality is a lot better, especially around the smaller text. I'm not sure of the difference between the i and the p, but does 720p = 1080i? I know 1080p is true HD, right? Arigats...
nope, they arent equal. they are different resolutions, with 1080 being a higher one. For fast motion sequences it is said that the p signal is optimum, due to the fact that it displays "whole" frames instead of interlaced (odd and even frames alternating one after the other)
Yeah, it's D3. I saw it on back and when the XBOX turns on my TV displays the D3 kanji.... I have the 360 settings at 720 but the screen says 1080i when it boots up...
Id say go with 720P, No real point in going with 1080i as it defeats lot of the reasons for going to HD. Unless your TV has a very nice de-interlacer, that is.
On this I have a 36in pixel plus philips tv(crt) pixel plus doubles the sandard pixels used I have only got my 360 running on a 15in lcd tv in my office so if I plugged it in to my normal TV would I also be able to get HD similar standard pictures?
This is sad. The never ending race for quality of picture - is that really how you're going to enjoy your games? remember, we used to play NES on an RF (and famicom not even on RF ) and we had tons of fun. =) 720p should be more than enough. It's the quality of the game that should concern oneself, and not the miniscule visual differences in quality and clarity
Oh I was just wondering why I have my 360 set to 720, I'm using a D3, but my TV switchs to 1080i when I turn on the 360. No clue there the 1080 came from...heh...
