Just wondering if there will be an update to the Everdrive like there was with the SD2SNES for the Super Everdrive?, does there even need to be one can the Everdrive play 99% of roms apart from Virtua Racing? Also is the only major updates to the Mega Everdrive over the Everdrive just real time saves and cheat codes?, if so is the Mega Everdrive really worth the extra asking price?
You are confusded. SD2SNES is not made by KRIKzz who made EverDrive. SD2SNES is made by someone named by the name ikari. KRIKzz is producing SD2SNES cartridges, but that is all. The Mega EverDrive is basically the equal to the SD2SNES for the Genesis. There Mega EverDrive is worth it if you are a huge fan of the Genesis and want all the extra features. However if you just want to play the games and don't care about the extra features, the regular EverDrive MD is solid. It will play almost every game.
MottZilla is right, but I would say it like this. KRIKzz did not develop the SD2SNES, he only manufactures it. Ikari_01 developed it. That's why the SD2SNES is not called "Super EverDrive Pro" or something like that. Since it wasn't developed by KRIKzz it does not have the EverDrive name attached. Will there be a SD2SGenesis? There is, its called the Mega EverDrive. I think you are under estimating the Mega EverDrive compared to the EverDrive-MD. It is vastly more powerful and has much more potential. If you actually compare the SD2SNES to the Mega EverDrive as the two super powerful flash Ccarts available right now, the Mega EverDrive actually has more features. I am sure the SD2SNES will get some of those features eventually as well. The thing that the Mega EverDrive has easy over the SD2SNES is that Sega did not use a bunch of special chips in their games. The only one that comes to mind is Virtua Racing. The SNES had quite a few games that used different special chips. Thats what Ikari_01 is attempting to emulate on the SD2SNES. For most people the EverDrive-MD will work just fine, for the more hardcore the Mega EverDrive is the way to go IMO. Here is list of differences that I can think of: Uses Cyclone II FPGA, much more powerful than EverDrive-MD and allows for possible cooler new feature in the future Firmware/OS are loaded directly off SD card during start up, no more need for JTAG to update Firmware Save States - Stop and Start a game at any point Access to menu system in-game Has both microSD and regular SD slots, so you have option of not having to mod cart shell if you don't want to do that Mini USB port Games load almost instantly, no more waiting Plays WAV and some other audio formats audio files Can handle larger and some hacked ROM files Has Play-Action Replay support, I know there are converters from Game Gear to PAR and vice-versa, but this has that built in Hex Viewer
I would loveto review the mega ever drive but I don't have the money to afford it right now. MAI was going to review the ever drive, but by the time I had my review ready to record, a lot of reviews already exist. The mega ever drive would be my big break on reviews, but it's going to be a couple of months before I can get the money together.
