I'm about to flash my BIOS (once HeXEn finishes downloading), would it be safer to use when I've done that?

Well yes, but you don't need Hexen if you've softmodded already... You just need EvoX dashboard as an app ;)

But what I did didn't flash the BIOS chip right? Isn't flashing the BIOS suppose to be better?

    Hey @FireAza
    Did you use my link?

Another good thing to do when you tsop is remove the HDD key requirement :)

Benefits of flashing something good. I recommend IND-BIOS 5003.

These are for the IND-BIOS. Some are exclusive to it.

    No HDD lock required.
No DVD check. Can boot with no DVD drive.
    128MB RAM support.
256K so it fits on all chips. Needs expanding for 1.0 and 1.1 boards since they are 1MB chips.
Works for 1.0 to 1.5 boards. Not sure if they made an option for 1.6 boards.
IGR that has been vastly improved over the glitchy original ones.
Option to customize the boot animation with an included config tool. I had mine looking close to the MS original for a sleeper look.

Much more I can't remember off the top of my head.

Check around for more details on it. This is the one I suggest flashing.

    Yep, I did!

Hmmm, it looks like this BIOS is newer and has more features than HeXEn, I should install this BIOS instead?

Also, I see the feature lists of these BIOSs mentioning they can boot all games and DVDs, does this mean the security on the Xbox is located on the BIOS? Does this mean I could re-install the original dashboard software on the HDD and still have region-free? Or would that also change my video mode back to PAL?

    Hi all,

I don't know if you guys can help me with this but here goes. I bought an original xbox fro a few quid the other day, when i first turned it on it took me to avalaunch, so i was chuffed to see that it had xecuter2 on it. The problem that i am having is that the majority of the time when i turn it on it just goes to the normal start up for xbox, i literally have to keep turning it off and on until the xecuter2 kicks in and takes me to avalaunch. Does anyone know why this is and is there a way to fix it?

    Thanks in advance

If it doesn't flash your BIOS on the TSOP, then your points are not bridged correctly. EVOX will always say your TSOP chip is "WINDBOND" by default. Just double check your points, chuck a bios.bin in your F/E partition and attempt a flash, if it just sticks on "flashing..." and the bar does not progress your bridge points are not correctly connected.

Be simple and flash the X2 5035 BIOS or previous releases, and be done with it. If you feel the need to get something better later on, then by all means do so.

Okay guys, I'm in the process of flashing the the TSOP. I've got the install software that bill linked to and I've got the X2 BIOS Build 5035. I notice there's a folder inside the rar that says "USE.THE.X2CONFIG.FILE.IN.THIS.RELEASE" and when I open the config.ini it's full of what look to me to be customization options. Is this how you customize your BIOS? Should this be done before flashing or can it be done after? To do this, do you just change "1" to "0" or vice versa and re-save the .ini?

I'm having trouble burning the boot disk iso, I'm using ImgBurn and I've tried both a CD-R and a DVD-RW, but the Xbox won't boot either of them, it says "tray empty". Any ideas?

Try another brand of disc if you haven't already. I remember I had a console that was pretty fussy and wouldn't read certain discs where other consoles would.

What DVD drive does it have. If it isn't the Samsung drive then chances are it's being picky on the media. My Samsung drive was picky too. Fixed it permanently with parts from the PC drive it was based off of. No more problems with reading different media. :)

I've already gone through all my disks :\ I haven't screwed up the burning somehow have I? I also tried to burn the Kameo beta, but that disk wasn't detected either.

There a way of flashing the BIOS without using a disk?

    It's a Thomson I think, it's the earliest one.

Thompson drive? Ew. I have one in one of my consoles and I hate it. Especially the big bulge at the bottom...

As for method of flashing, use FTP to get EvoX as an app and use it. EvoX has BIOS flashing built in by default. UnleashX has ftp built in. Just be sure the setting on the console have the network set to DHCP if you run it through a router. I had to for mine. As for the ftp client, I use FileZilla. Works perfectly for me.

Thompson drives are bad? Might this be why the Kameo beta I burned to a DVD-RW didn't load? Because if I'm pretty much gonna be unable to load ANY burnt disks on this drive, I might as well replace it then do the BIOS flash via the disk.

As to replacing the drive, where do I get one? I've seen them on eBay, but what model/brand should I be using? Or is there a better way?

Any model of drive from the original Xbox will work. I recommend a Samsung SG605B if you can find one. Those were the best.

If you want the ultimate Xbox DVD drive then do what I did. Get a Samsung SG605B and also get a Samsung SD616T. The 616T is a PC drive. Swap the laser from the 616T into the 605B. They are essentially the same drive and will interchange with no mods needed. Then either keep the PC 616T drive with the 605B laser for whatever or sell it off. While they are essentially the same drive with the Xbox one being slightly modified, the PC 616T seems to have a much better laser and reads all forms of media with no problem. It's easier than hacking the whole 616T drive to work in the Xbox. I can even make a tutorial if you need one.

Hmmm, any tips on where to get a new drive for a good price? I can't seem to find many of then. A lot of 360 drives though.
