I tried to do this quite a while ago but I just somewhat forgot about it all. All I have is the Xbox and the wires and I'm not really looking to buy more things for it to get it working. I was hoping they have found a way to do it with out having to buy one of the three games to exploit it since I'm hoping for a simple way to do it. Thanks
If you don't want to buy anything more, you should look for a hot swap method : technically, the installation phase of the softmod changes but it will finally work exactly the same way a soft install, but you wont need : - Splinter Cell/Mechassault/007 - Mem Card - A way to put the hacked save on the mem card (using another hacked xbox or modifiying a controler)
Darn thats a shame I was hoping that they found other ways to do it. Just I question before I go looking for the stuff needed. What can a softmodded xbox do other than Save xbox games to the hard drive which I'm not really that bothered about and emulators?
pretty much everything a hard modded xbox can do. run an alternate dashboard, web messengers, media center, internet browsers, run linux,
As far as I know, a softmodded Xbox can do everything a chipped Xbox can. With the "shadow C" techniques developed, you can actually get on Live, assuming you haven't used that particular Xbox on Live before. I've never run into any problems using anything on my two softmodded Xboxes. I wanted a chip for awhile, but honestly I don't see the point.
you just disable the mod to go on live. I do it all the time. Put mechassault in, select run linux, "disable soft mod", put in halo 2, play live. to remod it, put mechassault back in, select run linux, "enable softmod". done.
Thanks everyone! I will be looking more in to this soon just need to get a hold of one of the disks needed.
I softmodded my Two old fat Xboxs easily by using... -Mechassault -Action Replay http://us.codejunkies.com/shop/product.asp?c=US&cr=USD&cs=$&r=0&l=1&ProdID=119  Good Luck Buddy!
Yeah, good luck to ya buddy! I obtained my Action Replay on eBay for around $10! One thing that I dont think is possible using a Softmodded Xbox is swapping out the Harddrive for a larger capacity one. If anyone would like to correct this for me though it would make me very happy! EDIT: Henry feels like an idiot now cause he just discovered from a simple Google search that you indeed can! Holy Hot Cakes I am going to upgrade my Harddrive right away!!!
How about that HDD swap softmod that someone recomended me in an older thread? You only need a PC and to burn a cd with the software afaik
It worked perfectly for me. But as I didn't wanted to keep the softmod, I flashed my TSOP (not possible with 1.6 Xbox).
you're henry too? I'm henry! (hence Henners = nickname for Henry) anyway, yes you can. I upgraded my HDD to a 120GB. You run soft mod it, copy the files to your pc, burn a disc ( i dont remember what program it was), put the new hard drive in your pc and boot fromt he cd you just burned, it formats and sets up the drive, you put it in. it's harder than i just madei t sound though.
Just remember with upgrading a hdd on a softmodded xbox, the hdd must lock to the motherboard,if not that the hdd upgrading will fail.
Ha! Oh wow! I am really sorry about that then. It almost seems like I insulted you earlier, hahahaha. But yes, my name is Henry, nice to meet you. Dont know many people with that name.... Anyways, Yeah. I read the tutorial on how to Upgrade the HDD on a softmodded Xbob. You definately gave me a more condensed version thats for sure! It doesnt seem hard... more like, lengthy. Thanks Pikkon for the Heads up (even though I already knew that... ) Most people wont though!
Using a bigger hard drive with a softmod is somewhat of a risk, since there's no guarantee that your particular hard drive will lock. This would be where a TSOP flash or mod chip comes in, since a lockable hard drive makes no difference with those. The two hard drives I've used have worked fine, though, and I usually don't hear anything about a hard drive not locking. Then again, I don't exactly keep up with the Xbox "scene" anymore.
there is an list of xbox revisions and what hard drives are compatable and if they'll lock or not with that revision
