Hi Everyone, I was taking a trip back on memory lane yesterday and I stumbled upon a Romance of the Three Kingdoms game for the NDS I started working on a long while ago. I kind of wish I got more completed. Download Link NOTE: Probably only works under No$GBA since it's very incomplete. This binary just demos the intro and story. The rest was wired off since it wouldn't really work as-is anyway. Considering it was a home-brew effort, I think the direction was turning out to be not bad at all. But then again, the bar for the average home-brew is pretty low, so I guess it's nothing to be proud of. Anyone else have projects they started but wish they completed?
A 3rd Person camera engine for 3DGamestudio. A 2D Sonic beat em up. A retro game database for iPhone. A counter strike clone for iPhone. A unique history tracking program for mac. So many unfinished projects. I get distracted easily.
I've started and abandoned lots of game-related (and not game-related) projects, thought in some of the cases the idea wasn't actually finishing the game, but learning new stuff and getting used to new technologies. Between the stuff I never finished, the only one I truly regret having abandoned must be a browser-based MMO with a first person 3D engine based on WebGL. I managed to make a somewhat functional engine, but I dumped the project when it became too much work for a single person (mainly because I'm horrible at 3D modelling). Anyway I learned lots of Javascript, some object-oriented programming and a bit of AJAX in the process, and I hope some day I can team up with some people (I don't want to make the same mistake again) and give the project a second try.
Project sounds pretty interesting but would webGL really have been the best idea? The majority of people have IE and IE doesn't have any webGL support.
I started a multiplayer only Worms like game in Quick Basic 4.5 and never finished it. I couldnt really code random generated levels.
A fly in the ointment compared to other people here but I have multiple Doom Wads I never completed and lost. I had a thing for making maze like levels when I was a kid. I restarted when I was a bit older and made more expansive levels and did a little work in the way of changing enemies but not much. I also made a few mods for San Andreas (Melee weapons mainly) that I never finished and lost.
I like to think that my projects are on hold for an indefinite amount of time , but here's a few that haven't gotten much attention lately: - 6502 emulator (and eventual NES emulator. Code base sucks as it was my first large scale programming project. In need of complete rewrite) - GameBoy Color Emulator (code is actually very good. Have a couple more z80 specific things to implement, then I can get the the CGB part of it all. This one isn't really abandoned, just not worked on in a few months) - MIPS r4000 series emulator (code base sucks. Needs full rewrite. Not too interested in this anymore. If I get an n64 backup unit then I'll probably start work again as a side project) I kinda like emulators My next project will be a CUDA powered ray tracing engine for Siemens / intel talent search programs. Need to actually start working on that. Hmm...
My ninja game I wanted to do so much. I started optimising the code before I got anything serious done - yeah, got distracted. Basically coding now should be so easy on this as I've made everything OO (object oriented). Creating new instances of ai, hitboxes were practically made in an unreleased demo, just do some simple attacks, a life and chakra bar and you're good to go. http://ninjatale.blogspot.com/
I've still never finished my disassembly of Sonic CD 510 :/ I've been meaning to get back to it for some time, as I had made some decent progress but nope, no time. I wanted to break ground being the first to completely disassemble one of the Sonic CD games T_T
I think long ago I tried to make a Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire pokemon location map in Visual Basic. Rather dumb as any FAQ makes it redundant. There's some RPG Maker stuff I've never finished. I too had gotten wrapped up in that Super Mario World fad. One of the few hack projects that's made enough progress to not consider iced. Not that I've worked on it in some time. >_> Also had several different webmaster ideas shut down when their free hosting providers quit the particular services I was using. Homestead, ZendURL, Geocities... Remember AcmlmBoard? Yeah, that too I experimented with. Much for stuff I've tried may remain on this computer somewhere. Some of it also has preview info on my wiki. Whatever's left is mostly open to hand off for other people to take over and consider their own. Unlikely as it'd be anyone wants it.
I regret loosing all my little clone games and tools I wrote between 1990 and 1997... I also lost all my scanned photos and digitized tapes in the same hard drive crash. Only Crux clone for Turbo Vision / Borland Pascal from 1997 survived because it was in some hotmail attachment
Too many to list, and most still in my ToDo list... but mainly: at least 1 app + 1 game per console, starting with PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, DC and then we'll see what else. We'll see...
manly projects that i have lost that im too lazy to start again . re-right of the xbmc ftp serves to stream media over the net so my friend in another town could watch my movies. a heap of doom maze wads made with the doom engine for dos witch im having a hard time trying to find cos it came of a disk that was stuck to a 1000 like pg book. been on and of modding halo 1 for like 6 years now. its kinda like you start one thing then you find something cooler to do then do that like i have plans to make my self a xbox dev/debug kit cos to buy a real one it seams like id need to sell some vital organs..yea wonted to have a crack at making some homebrew xbox games...then as a fun joke sign them with the halo 2 certificate and run it on a jtag xbox 360 witch is another lost project ...well not really its going under a major case mod XD...yea i have a short attention span and stuff that school/work/life related that keeps me from doing what i love
