    For anything SMD I use chip quick if the component isnt meant to get hot. EEVBlog has a nice video on the stuff. Highly recommend if you dont have a rework station.

    Try to use older ones. Those made in the last 15 or so years have lead free solder and can be a bitch to work with. You could also try places like Goodwill or Salvation army as well as craigslist free to see if you can get 70's or 80's era electronics free to play with. Do take care if you're going to play with CRT.
