Oh yes, definitely use leaded solder! I used non-leaded solder once and it was terrible. I cried every night for a week. How have you not burnt yourself yet? Not even a splatter from flux exploding out of the solder? You haven't really had the full soldering experience then! :highly_amused: Try leaving an iron on, going somewhere else, returning and stepping on it! Only then will you know how to enjoy soldering properly...:topsy_turvy:
Nope not yet at all, I'm overly careful maybe a little too careful. LOL! Have you really stepped on a hot iron? How did you even manage that? You shouldn't leave the irons on out of the holder and walk away, you could start a fire. :/
Ahhhhh it's a painful story but I ran out of desks and bench space to work on. So I was working on the floor. Got up to get something, came back, distracted, ouch! :wink-new: My holder is cracked and I need a new one ASAP! Or just eventually... :topsy_turvy:
Hahaha, it wasn't too bad. Makes you feel alive! :highly_amused: That said, I ordered a holder earlier today... :victorious:
I've been using random irons from radio shack for years now, have chipped probably over 1000 xbox and ps2s along with other projects...they work well for $10-20. I really should get a kit though.
Have bought myself a soldering iron (30w one from amazon), a wire cutter, some electrical tape and some lead free solder (as suggested by Hexigon). Should have it all by this week and then can begin fixing the two duke controller I have . Hoping it will all go well! And hopefully won't end up burning my foot or hand or something in the process ha
Get yourself some safety glasses and maybe a mask, those fumes aren't nice. Make sure you work in a well ventilated area.
I'll stick some sunglasses on and do the soldering in the kitchen with the extractor fan on I'm out of money now! Ha
Sorry I did mean to post "leaded" solder..I get confused with the two . My soldering iron came with lead free solder but then I ended up buying lead based solder after what he posted
