I just watched a speedrun of Solomon's Key, the NES version. The guy beats the game in little over 26 minutes using. Now that's impressive. But wait! How does he jump over the bad guys, lands so close to them and doesn't die? How come he can build the blocks in a vertical line and climb them at the same time? That's the NES version for you. These things are impossible to do in the arcade version and believe me, I tried every trick in the book when it comes to this game. Here's the NES video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rV1lzZo-D5w That's great. The guy beat it. I always played the arcade version and for the life of me, I can't finish the damn thing. Maybe it's because you have to play it all the time or you lose shape. And since it takes time to get in shape, I'm fed up with the damn thing just about when I reach the peak of my Solomon abilities. As far as I ever got, was room 43 [10-7]. The only Solomon's Key fansite doesn't go past room 40. You can check out my highscore here. http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/7183/solomonhixo8.gif Is there anyone who had actually beaten this thing in its arcade form? There are various ports but they're all inacurate. Not too long ago Tecmo released a compilation of their oldies for Xbox. Solomon's Key was among the games they ported. I don't have this compilation so I have no idea how it looks like. The biggest pain in the arcade version is that there are no continues past the room 30. That would certainly get in handy when trying to learn the layout of the room you can't finish. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to go all the way to 40 something just to try it one more time.
Most speed runs are done using emulators that slow the game down and use save states. This allows moves that are next to impossible to perform to be done regularly.
