    Hey all,

Removed a mod chip from a PS2 Phat (modbo 5.0d). Unit now just boots to the browser and flashes on the screen unknown DVD repeatedly. It thinks a DVD movie is inserted and will keep flashing this.

Anyone know which point on the board from the mod chip could be the culprit?

    Thanks all.

From what Im reading, point Y has to do with DVD Video. Could that be the one causing the issue?

From research, Y is for video mode. My guess is it's not that point specifically, but it really could be anything.

I was hoping for a quick and easy solution, but am learning with these PS2 hardmods, nothing is quick and easy LOL.

    Thanks again!

Check all the points where wires were removed. Maybe something is shorted to adjacent pin.

Did you totally remove the chip, including all wires? If you removed the chip but left the wires there, perhaps the wires are causing some interference.

Wires have been completely removed. I plan on going back into the unit soon and reflowing some of the solder joints. Ill keep you all posted.

Glad you got it working. As much as hard modded PS2s are great, they are a pain to install considering how easy it is to use a softmod such as FMCB.

Agreed, thats what I did. I installed it with one of those SATA adapters with a 500GB HDD, works great. I might give it another go with a hardmod. I bought different wire and will be using liquid flux rather than paste. If I can get a Slim PS2, maybe....
