Hi! I got a copy of Wolverine: Adamantium Rage today and popped it into my Mega PC that I use as a "test station", since it's always ready to run with just a flick of a switch. Well this game did not work. It went past the TMSS but then all it did was showing flickering colored lines and an error message and sometimes a constant note sounding. I cleaned the contacts and the error was still there. Sometimes the error message changed to "illegal inst" or it wouldn't show anything at all. At this point I honestly thought the cartridge was dead for sure but I wanted to be absolutely sure about it. I tested it in a few other systems I have. Model 1 with and without TMSS, Model 2 and Multi-Mega. It worked perfectly on all those systems. That has to mean that some games just don't work on the Mega PC. Anyone else here had something similar happen or is it really just the cartridge I have?
Hmm did you try the card cleaning trick on the cart solt i do it on all mega drives i service and repair and all my carts boot first time every time.
I cleaned the cartridge very good and the Mega PC cart slot is very clean and like I said the game works on all the other hardware I have, only the Mega PC refuses to boot it. Sometimes the game gets to the Sega logo but still always crashes. I tried it with a Game Genie but that didn't help, though I just skipped the codes and tried to start the game. On a side note, the Mega PC is physically incompatible with Action Replays because the pins protude out futher then normal on these things. The case doesn't reach far enough into the slot to hit the little switch that instructs the Mega PC to boot the game. Maybe the Adamantium Rage cart isn't dead yet but already dying. I've only came across one dead cart yet and coincidetially it was also made by Acclaim (MK1).
Aklaim just made some of the plastic shells on later carts. Like how auto makers source out companies for the tires on their cars rather than making them in house.
Well the dead Mortal Kombat is not manufactured by Sega. The PCB is copyrighted by Acclaim and made by LiteOn. Not that it really matters that much. Like I said it was only coincidentially another Acclaim game that gave me problems.
I was reading up on some YouTube comments earlier while trying to solve my issues and noted some who reportedly worked for a repairer of the Mega PCs back in the day would do a resistor fix as some games would crash... here's the quote from andyst200 in the comments here. Perhaps your cart is an early cartridge to which there wasn't a fix on the Mega PC without the above fix but worked well on all other Sega Mega Drive consoles.
Very interresting comment! I just checked my Aladdin cart and guess what, it doesn't boot in the Mega PC but works fine on the other systems. So there actually are compability problems on the Mega PC. Very good to know!
Ha! What are the chances you'd have that game there as well? I've never owned Aladdin, I did have Jungle Book though... wasn't very good at it though...
