Game Basic for Sega Saturn - Database We launched one of our project last week-end at www.satakore.com : the Game Basic database. Currently, there are 14 entries that let you see the power of the Game Basic. for example: - Neptune IV: really great 3D shoot'em up - Saturn Balde: a space invaders clone - Saturn Vader: a sample of what danmaku could be - MIMAS: a great 3D modeler - high speed +: a sample of high speed 3D shoot'em up Yukun software and VSC/ S. Moriyama did some wonderful works with the Game Basic. => http://www.satakore.com/sega-saturn-complete-game-basic,,1,,0.html What do you think about these programs ? There are all obscure and not well-known but I found them really good, despite they are made with Basic language.
WOW! Some of those look really impressive... is the basic code compiled or interpreted? Also, I wonder how they pulled off all the 3D - does Saturn Basic have DSP functions or did they do it all on (one?) SH2...
Wouah this is really impressive!!! Why bother with C when Basic look so good and powerful!!! Too bad the basic kit is so hard to come by... Sabre
Aren't they VERY limited? You are programming a game with only 2mBytes of onboard RAM. I remember seeing a picture of this but forgot how it works with the Saturn.
So what if it is only 2 Megabyte ? not all old , and superb games were bigger. Heck some where even smaller, like the SSI rpgs, and Bards Tale on C64. So I don´t understand you. Some cracktros, and keygens and cracks are smaller than 1 megabyte, and they can still do their job. It is all about optimisation. And etc. What do you ecspect ? And well the old computers I am thinking didn´t even have 2 Megabytes of ram. So what is it you exspect ?
I don't really know, but it seems the Game Baisc has some 3D functions implemented. About the size of the programs, what it takes most of the KB is the data for drawing the items, not the program code by itself. I really think you can make some superb programs with this Game Basic, it is really powerful.
Of course, for the real to-the-metal Saturn experience, fire up SNASMSH2 and bit-bang the hardware ;-)
I have the Basic kit, but I never did anything with it. The demo 3D code gives you a Jumping Flash clone with some nice camera functions, so the Basic kit certainly has the capabilities built in. It's worth noting that there's a link cable to connect to a Windows 95 PC, so you're not actually coding right on the actual console all the time.
About program limit, that's sure you can only use 2Mb but if you burn the game basic on a CD with external files (background, textures, sounds) you can override this limit.
16 new programs have been added, all made by Bits Laboratory. Most of them only show you how to use some functions. There are also 2 games: one tank game (3D Sensha Game with 2 variations) and one 3D Shooting game.
The Game Basic Database is now completed at www.satakore.com After more than 2 months of offline work, I really happy to announce that our project is completed: our Game Basic for Sega Saturn Database is now online! ==>Game Basic Database This database consists of all Game Basic programs that we were able to find. I want to thank vbt for his help on this task. He helped me finding some rare programs on the Internet. Here are some statisctics about this database: - 477 entries, all tested - 372 different programs (Demos, Tools, Games, Music,...) - 1802 screenshots made from real hardware - 459 videos for more than 13 hours of watching - more than 2 months of work Programs will be available for download soon, as I need to write some pieces of code before. I hope a lot of you, that requested infos about Game Basic for SS in the past, wil be happy.
Hiya Madroms. First of all, let me apologize for not having answered to a message which you left in another thread about Game Basic, giving such an interesting link . About your project, it looks like simply awesome. Thanks for sharing it. Very good compilation. And this demonstrates me how much Game Basic can do :O . By the way, I've enjoyed much that "Alphabet Fighting" video XD .
I'm very impressed too The racing game (around the bottom of the list) is just crazy for a basic game ^^ It seems smooth top of that ! Well done
