I noticed that my model 2 JPN VA-SG Saturn(21pin) has an empty place for a memory Reset switch. If I add a switch from another dead board, does that feature work? Elbarto's one has it. http://megadrive.org/~elbarto/saturn/JAP VA SG (171-7128B - 837-12126)/main_board_front.png It has a 5pin power supply(long), can it be replaced with a 5 pin euro va7/9 one? Previously I changed a 4 pin one with a 5pin. One final request, does anyone know where can I find a template for Virtua Stick (HSS-0136) ? I want to cut a new plate (plexi) and cover for it.
just a curiosity, no reason at all, I missed a model 1 Saturn for a long time. what about pal sd? is it compatible with jap sg?
I see the missing resistor, rated 512. SD model is not common here, I will continue to use its original. It has a 64pin optical drive, I replacedit with a 32pin one and it works. I might be wrong, but I tried this before and it didn't work on another machine.
I have also a PAL VA7 machine, it doesn't work properly. When it's first turned on it works a few seconds then hangs, controller not working, turn it off and on again, it displays darker colors, then again power on, even darker, at last no video. Rest it a while, power cord detached, it works normal for a few seconds again. Did you encounter it before? Do you have any idea? I may soon have a Saturn graveyard...
I can confirm that JPN VA-SG board can work with 32 pin JVC drive(v14) instead of 64pin JVC v14 drive. I also installed a Rob modchip. No problems for now. But it didn`t accept it at first, couldn`t recognize some discs etc.
CONFIRMATION: 5pin longer power supply (pinout: GND, GND, +3.3v, +5v, +9v) from a VA-SG Saturn(21pin) can be replaced with a 5 pin EURO VA5(PAL SD) power supply. I measured the pins, exactly same voltages. So I replaced the one in a JAPAN VA4 SG with a EURO VA5 PAL SD and vice versa.
