Ive seen this before, the first time i was like wtf... the read that the kit was broken dosnt make it any better but to most people that means it has no value. yeah it looks so shit once its done :/ im also more upset by the destroyed Nirvana track on his video :'(

 

I can't say that I'm mad, if anything then I admire his passion to create nice casemods. There are enough Dev-Kits out there, I think one more or less doesn't really matter.

The only thing that made me 'facepalm' is the final product - wtf. Seriously? He had a clear dev kit for christ's sake, and what does he do to it? He paints it black? LOL It looks like shit now... could have been awesome with those metal grids on the side and a nice finish and maybe (or maybe not) some simple LEDs added to it. But black... ugh... ugly as hell.

 

Why did he use the devkit anyway? Are they bigger or something? Don't see why else he would do something like that :'(

I'd seen this a while ago, but yeah, it makes me cry a little bit on the inside every time I see that video, especially since I'm a big XBOX original fan. He cut out about 80% of the case, and I'm sure he could of just extended the height of a regular one.

But on the bright side, he actual did make a pretty awesome PC mod. Props to that guys abilities and skill. Hopefully next time he doesn't decide to put his hand on a Dev Kit.

 

Damn. Even broken I'd take the Xbox dev kit over that "thing". At the very least, keep the clear case.
Still, I'm not going to be an absolute hypocrite. I know that his work there, however horrible looking in my opinion is far better than anything I could do.

What a piece of shit. I rarely feel justified in judging people but holy goddamn christ on a cracker. Why take a clear case and paint it black? WHY!?!?!

I was in shock through the whole video, and I actually mentioned he has too much money to throw. If you notice he sorter extends the case a bit. So why wouldn't an aftermarket case be good enough and just extend it? This guy has skill on making his own case sure, but WHY A DEVKIT!? Who cares if it wasn't working if he was so good at doing mods he should of known how to repair it. The amount of time he spend on that, he could of. What a load of shit, the finished product looks like ass, BLACK!? A NORMAL XBOX IS BLACK.

Makes me so angry...

 

The kit was probably completely dead, maybe shipping damage and something happened to the board or the entire thing to seriously damage it. But why the FUCK would you paint it black?!? This is the kind of the thing you want to be able to see the inside of surely?

I saw this video some years back. I thought I saw it on llamma or something though?

Either way, I think I remember an article where he talked about finding the kit at a local recycling center - apparently it was non-functioning when he got it.

You could have repaired the kit from a retail motherboard like replace the bios chip and then add the extra ram and there you have you xdk board. man what a waste.

I just don't get why he's painting it pitch black. It would look so much better if the custom metal plates on the sides were exposed in their original silver?!

 

He even painted the vents as well! I guess that guy has no idea about design.

 

As I have said before, anything in the field of electronics can be repaired. So there goes an Xbox dev kit down the drain...

Apart from that, he did do a fantastic job. The thing that pissed me off was that he painted it black, put an apple logo in the center and used electrical tape on the graphics card ATX +12v line.
