Someone who calls himself MrHard PMed me a since a few days ago trying to get informations from me regarding xbox devkits here is his first PM: "Hi, my name is Mario, I'm italian developer and I need to lear n more about my dev kit. I've only sdk ad recovery kit. In a thread you said that you're able to run retail game using a loader. Can you tell me more? Have you write the hack code? ciao" At first I thought he was talking about the xbox1 devkits since I made a thread a few days ago about it. Thus I forwarded him to the retail game loader that leaked in gamerhistory long ago (which allows xbox1 devkits to run retail game) Then he sends me this pm: "thanks for the answer. have you sdk? my installer is damage" Again I thought he was talking of the xbox1 XDK available pretty much on every torrent sites nowaday (wether it is the 5849 or the 5933). As I obviously did not want to send him any copyrighted stuffs I told him to look at torrent sites. Then he sends me another PM : " I said: sdk for xbox360 xdk" So the guy was actually talking about the 360 all along, he probably figured some people here may have some leaked 360 XDK and a way to play games on their devkits (I am btw obviously not one of them as I do not even own a 360 devkit in the first place) and that I may be one of them (which again I am not), so the guy which I never knew before has the guts to PM me to ask me to leak stuffs to him and leak him a 360 XDK which I do not have. I don't know about you but I believe it is against the rules to ask someone for copyrighted stuffs especially as sensitive as the 360 XDK in PM. I thought I'd tell you as this behaviour really pisses me off. I told him that if he wanted the XDK he just had to buy himself a damn licence. I hope an admin do something as I believe I am not the only one he tried to contact.
I agree that discussing it on the boards is dubious, although I don't think I PM'd discussion counts. However, if he's bothering you, then I think someone should have a polite word with him.
well it would be like if I'd never have spoken to you before and I suddently PM you to know if you could give me XXX sdk or any other piece of "sensitive" software, it would look a bit odd wouldn't it ? Also I may be too suspiscious but this MrHard who claimed being named "Mario" in the PMs he sent me claims to be named "Albert" on a post he made in the microsoft section here : http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=245902&postcount=5 This looks definitely suspiscious to me.
Mr Hard actually automatically added me to MSN the other day. I accepted and asked 'who are you?' and got 5mins of nonsense. Funnily enough I had to report someone using very similar tactics employed by Mr Hard against Matt the other day, except at that point he / she was claiming to be a Japanese developer looking for information on the PSP Test. Same idea - do you have SDK can you provide information on firmware updates etc. Think we have some industry interest or is this just an asshole? I eventually said I had recently sold most of my collection off, just to get rid of him. He's on MSN almost all day (only noticed because I have been off work looking after the kids) Should members collection areas for instance be in a locked environ as to avoid people snooping in?
Members only with a certain number of posts? Say 50+ Anyway, not my site and don't want to over react.
I don't even have 50 posts myself I hang in here a lot but i am not used to write a lot of posts in forums xD
PHP: No wai we know you love the maxconsoles moar :noooo: No love for assembler  .... *Hides post count* :katamari:
lol nah it is just that I don't have much to post arround here usually :/ (my collection aint that great xD)
Here are some words of wisdom: Anytime you post about SDK's, Dev sites, Firmwares, Beta's, or any inside industry shiat in genenral expect the leeches to flood you with PM's. Hell I posted a genuine "Is the sony dev site down?" inquiry and like clock work.... "Oh hey what's on there? " "Can you get so-and-so-files?" Jesus... EDIT: Then again a healthy curiosity isn't all that bad...
Yeah, that's understood - this was different. This was more than the ordinary curiosity. Kev actually had a look at one of the PM's I was sent by this so called Japanese developer and decided it was suspect. The format was very, very similar and came hot on the heels of this guy, which is why I am suspicious also. I'm glad Mat has raised the issue. Having been here for a while I have had 'those' PM's and emails, but MrHard's interest somewhat different.
If you posted somewhere to say you had it then I don't think a private message is out of order. Just reply with a polite yes/no. If they start harassing you etc then that is out of order. Software for dev kits isn't that sensitive, it's generally only useful if you have the hardware. I know some people disagree, which is why I have a pile of stuff I can't do anything with.
I say let's treat these two with caution - they might well be snoops (albeit pretending to be young/incompetent).
How is posting private correspondence publically any better? And it's not like this is evidence of a crime (like theft). And could have been solved by a PM back to the guy and/or to a Mod/Admin.
Remember that english isn't his native language, he might not be trying to be rude or aggressive sounding.
hahaahah I just noticed something but whats his real name? Albert or Mario? Hes not really good at this deception stuff. That can only mean he works for Sony. Maybe its this guy.. Edit#2 : Ooops someone has already pointed that out... I'll just leave now...
I've actually heard from another AG member who wishes for various reasons to remain anon. Apparently Mr Hard has been rather rude and quite abrupt with him also. Again, I thought 'perhaps it's the language thing' but actually when I heard the full story (which I won't post here) it seems that in actual fact he IS just brash, rude, forward and asking all sorts of awkward questions. When this particular person tried to suggest he was not able to provide the software that was being requested, he became very rude!
