This is really stumping me and driving me crazy. I've been playing Morrowind game of the year on the HDD and it played fine until a save became corrupted and the map woulldn't display properly. So I tried to simply start a completely new game. Well now the game crashes every single time at the head selection menu at the beginning of the game.
I've: reinstalled unleashx, deleted the game from the HDD, deleted the cache and XYZ files, Morrowind save files and installing several other games on the HDD after to make sure the cache is overwritten, then reinstalling Morrowind. This is on the stock 8gb Seagate drive. The problem is still there.

But here's the stranger thing: when I played the game, I changed some options to my liking, which is how I know that I must be overlooking some stray cache file or something that must be still lurking somewhere on the HDD. After all of the above, my custom options settings still remain exactly as I set them previously when starting a new game.
How can this be possible if i've deleted the cache, save files and reinstalled everything, presumably starting from scratch? I can't even play the game anymore due to this. I don't want to play on PC. Please help.

That's very weird, but it sounds like the Hard Disk is going on it's way out.

Check your E: Drive. That is where most game Data is saved. Check your Cache There.
