I absolutely hate how they loose the TV's sync momentarily during start up, or in some cases transitioning to/from FMV or even loading screens etc. Somehow every other console can change video modes seamlessly, (perhaps because they do so to a blanked screen, but regardless) it's really sloppy of Sony for allowing it since it makes the consoles even more set top player-like. Anyone else even notice it?

Do you mean, for example, when the PSone boots up, shows the PS logo screen and does that little flash then boots the game, right?

Something absolutely wierd about that: I took my PSone and Metal Gear Solid over to my mom's house the other day and hooked it up via the cable boxes inputs (not the best solution I know but I didn't want to move the TV). It's a normal 32 inch CRT TV, but heres the thing, it would boot up, show the logo's, but then never do the switch. It just sat there on the PS logo, but the game was working and playing sounds and stuff. Wierd! The memory card screen and stuff worked too. I ended up having to move the TV and hook it up with Svideo.

Yeah, I've noticed it too. It reminds me of a mains power flicker.

If I remember it right from the past it has something to do with the DVD protection and RGB output. At least on PS2.
