Hi, I've bought this Saturn for really cheap price: But as you can see it has a lot scratches. Does any1 know any solution to eliminate those scratches? Console also doesn't have bezel over power/open/reset buttons, but I don't think I can get one anywhere
Novus do a range of polishes, Novus 2 in particular I use a lot on pinball machines and it works well but I don't think you'll be able to 'buff out' scratches that deep!
the below is the result of me putting Novus 3 on the shell and leaving it for some time , after that i put it in boiling hot water and scrubbed the Novus 3 off............. i had to buy a whole new top shell from someone i know in the US
Always test on a small area first, but tbh I am surprised. Never had any problems like that with Novus 2. How long did you leave it on there for?
Magic eraser works really well with Novus 2, but that's only for getting dirt/grime off, not polishing out scratches.
its been about 2-3 years since i did that i dont remember exactly , im thinking 15 -25 mins and then washed it off in the sink
You aren't really supposed to leave Novus 1-3 on, it's more of a polishing paste afaik. I'm guessing it was washing it in the sink that did it though.
the water i used to wash off the Novus 3 was boiled in a kettle and put in the sink , this is the second thread of mentioned my experiences with Novus 3 and how not to use it................. if i can help anyone not achieve what i did its worth it
aah that makes sense. I'm almost certain that it was the boiling water and not the Novus 3 that caused the discolouration.
I really wouldn't bother. It's in a state and it's not the sort of material that should be polished - polish is for a gloss finish, which a Saturn doesn't have. Use it as it is, or customize it (paint it or something). I'd say it was a combination of the two - the instructions were not read. I don't think NOVUS No. 3 (for heavy scratches) was the right product in the first place (especially as it needs NOVUS No. 2 for finishing) and it states that it's not for use on coated plastics. Anyway, it's a polish - you polish it on, you don't leave it. And you then remove ALL polish with a cloth - not water. Just like polishing a car, or a table. I really don't understand why you'd think you'd need to pour boiling water on it. Anyway, as you say, others can learn from it, at least!
I haven't had any luck with this ever, I think if you tried to polish the scratches out in any way you'd end up with glossy patches and it would look a mess. Best you can do is magic eraser it (they are slightly abrasive, so they DO help restore the finish but don't go too crazy) followed by a wipe down with WD40.
