Synth? Voice Synth? Or voice of some strange mutant? For years I've always assumed it was human voice carved onto the Genesis' SPU but now that I'm listening to it I'm rather curious. Anyone know for certain?

All I can hear in the credits is a raspy sample followed by a drum hit sample. Both are produced by the bog-standard, cruddy sample "channel" on the Genesis. If you're hearing voices of another type, it's best to consult a doctor.

The funny thing is there was a big thing about Micheal Jackson being involved in some of the music in that game. Doesn't that sound like Stranger In Moscow? =)

The story of Michael Jackson's involvement with Sonic 3 has already been done to death! However, for those who still don't know the facts I'll say this much; there's no doubt that MJ did in fact compose elements of the soundtrack for Sonic 3 - whether he wanted to or not is another thing entirely! You see, much of the game's music was produced by such names as Bobby Brooks, Geoff Grace, Daryl Ross and "Scirocco," plus regular Sega musicians like "Bo" and Jun Senoue. The first set of names may not be familiar in most households, but fans of Jackson will recognise them as his studio collaborators and touring players. So, it's possible they could have incorporated certain themes into their work, as this would also explain why later versions of Sonic 3 (apart from those directly emulating the original ROM, of course) featured heavily remixed songs. Case closed? Not as long as the hardcore Sega conspiracy theorists have blood in their veins... yes, I'm looking over at the Sonic Cult in particular...

I would like to say that the recent Sonic 3 & MJ video you're thinking about wasn't done by any of the Sonic CulT members.
