dont know if this is the correct place on this site
to post this but who give's a crud

for anyone intrested in bizzare happenings in games
i sware this works.a few years back i was playing sonic cd
on a megadrive mega cd (euro uk) when i got pissed of
and stuck sonic 3d (md) in the cart slot while still
playing sonic cd and then hit the reset.
the console now runs sonic 3d
i cant try this now cos i dont have sonic 3d
this is from memory ..but when you get to the title screen
of sonic 3d press start and a level select pops up.
(should work with any mega cd game i would think)

    i dunno try it
    ccp

I think the point he was making is that he had two different games boot at the same time. MD booted Sonic 3D, and with the megacd game it had a new option that allowed the selection of any level.

I'm going to hook up my MD/MCD for this! I would be cool if it actually works.

I would recommend saving your hardware and doing the following instead:

    BARACUDA cheat

On the press Start screen, press the following:

    B
    A
    Right
    A
    C
    Up
    Down
    A

You should be taken to the main menu. Press Start and you can select a level.

During the game, you can now pause and press A to skip to the next level.

It is a cheat built into the game. Pulling the cartridge out is not recommended. It will usually crash the game, but sometimes can have odd effects like this (I had similar in New Zealand Story on a Master System with a loose cartridge slot). It seems you inadvertently activated the cheat either by taking the cart out and crashing the game or randomly mashing buttons and happening to get BARACUDA!

Yeah if I recall with Sonic 3D if there is an error it will sometimes dump you to the Level Select screen. So that could be why you are experiencing this. I would strongly suggest following retro's advice though.

i was young and reckless its not something i do these days
but i dont think it will hurt your md to much if someone wants to try it.
maybe i had the sonic cd level select on and then put the cart in?
not so sure.anyway for anyone reading this use the cheat above this post
its not worth messing you system up :)

Indeed. In case of a general failure Sonic3D will go to the level select screen. Slightly tapping the cartridge will give the same result.

okay guys I swear this works. You pull out sonic 2 from the cartridge slot while playing. Pour some water all over the console while it's running. Whack it a few times with a sledge hammer. And this unlocks super tails with 50 tails!

I would test this again myself but I don't have a sledge hammer anymore...

If you pulled out the sonic 2 cart you aint playing sonic 2 no more.
but very funny all the same

Dave is only home for endless re-runs of Top Gear. Although that's not such a bad thing.

Anyway, as Retro said there are many ways of achieving odd effects by messing carts. I always used to wiggle my carts (ooooh matron) whenever I got stuck in a game, you sometimes get some really interesting stuff (but mostly blue screens or the endless repetition of the last sound the game made).

Interestingly enough my best mate has a copy of Pitfall for the MD and on level 9 the game crashes at the same spot everytime (there's an error message but I can't remember what it says). Give the cart a whack and it keeps going.

    Oh how I miss cartridges.
