Playing the Japanese release of Sonic Adventure I've noticed a few things 1. The camera is much improved. 2. The game controls better and is easier to play. 3. Some slowdowns are less noticeable than on the USA release. So I'm wondering did the Japanese version have a revision later on? I played it on NullDC, tested and compared between USA and JAP and the JAP is definitely easier to control. Also, is it just me or is the camera on the demo on Generator Vol 1 just really awful?
Are you playing Sonic Adventure International Edition? That was the second release and is improved over the original Japanese release.
I don't think it's the international version, there's no English option and voice is in Japanese only. The filename is Sonic Adventure v1.007 (1998)(Sega)(NTSC)(JP) I also forgot to mention the lipsync is much better in this version.
The lip sync will be better because it was made with Japanese voices in mind. The original Japanese release of Sonic Adventure is not better than the US version from what I remember. I own both original discs.
Come on, you have to be kidding. I thought the Japanese release was considered much inferior exactly due to the things you've noticed on the complete opposite though! I might have to give it a try sometime.
[/QUOTE] Yes, this is correctly which is why I'm confused. Edit: I found some info on Underground Gamer it says Hmmm.
It went kinda like this: Sonic Adventure (JP) -> Sonic Adventure (US) -> Sonic Adventure Intl (JP) Each version was considered better than the previous. That said, based on EmuSentai's last post, it sounds like he's playing a pirated version rather than an original, so who knows what's actually in the file. SA is one of the most common DC games around. If you're too cheap to buy an original, then you really have no respect for the system or the games.
Since Sonic Adventure is one of the most common releases out there, it stands to reason that this game also got lots of pressings. So yes there are two versions in Japan; the regular edition and the international edition. However it's not unlikely that -because of the high demand for this game- SEGA used a different (updated) revision of the game for new pressings. If that is indeed the case, then that would explain why this particular copy of Sonic Adventure (J) is superior to the US version you played.
I must have an early US version since I always have camera and border glitches causing sudden death if I hurry through a level at TAS (Tool Assisted Speed-run) speeds...
I had the Japanese version and with camera issues aside there was a neon cowgirl in the casino stage that they cut out of the U.S. version. Plus you couldn't keep track of emblems I believe. To be honest though the camera could be bad I don't think it was really that bad but yes U.S. version was more stable.
