So let me give my opinion. Now that I've had a run with the game for the while. When I first started playing it...I was like wow, this is cool but meh.... who cares its not that great. I just found the whole "rails" thing a bit too over controling. I mean I wanted to take full control and theres alot of parts where you can literally let go of the controller for like 30 seconds and it won't matter. I felt jibbed. Sure it looked great but wtf? Of course then I said to myself, "okay so I'm not in control of the game for every second... who cares. I never controlled cut scenes so why should it matter." then I started to like it a bit more, and as you continue playing you relize, that you actually do have alot of control over what goes on. Sure you can set the controller down, but then you missing rings and fire embelems and so forth. You can back- up and break on any part. And the more you master the control the more you love this game. The controls aren't hard. In fact, every friend I had who tried this game was able to do fine on most of the levels, and they enjoyed it, of course I did "tutor" them while they playyed a tiny bit. (i'm in rez so alot of peope come by and causally play it for liek 10 mins) The games sound is horrendous and doesn't match the levels at all, its all stuff that doesn't belong. THe Voice acting is worse then any sonic game before. Its Phillips Zelda Cd-i corny bad. When I finally turned off the sound, threw in my on my own tunes and let the subtitles at the bottom of the screen do all the work. I was great. This is really the point I really fell in love with the game. Also, theres so much more to do then just playing though levels, the RPG thing may seem "throwaway" in the begining, since you can go through the game for a large part without adjusting your skills really its not and equiping the right combination skills for a certain level can make or break your experience. In fact, sometimes I just like to play the game as I'd play an RPG, multi-tasking. Throw on a good tv show on my computer, and mindlessly go through levels to level-up. and its still a blast. Its a lot, alot better then Sonic Adventure DX, which my friend recently bought me. Thats a game I just got sick of. I loved sonic Adventure 2, but this is completely different. While that was about platforming, this is about speed. In all and all this game is a great step in the right direction of sonic and how he once was. Do yourself a favor & buy this. Its not a game to rent in my opinion. If you rent it, you gonna play it and just get sick of it. If you'll buy it the guilt factor will kick in and make you give it a second and maybe 3rd chance. So thats my thoughts on Sonic. Love to see what everyone else thinks PS: the multiplayer is slightly okay, but really is pretty bad. I only gave it like a 20 min trial. But it didn't impress me. Someone else should make a comment on this.
Thanks for the comments Nitrosoxide. I've got to wait until the 15th for the Japanese version. I'm really looking forward to this. A lot of the guys over at NTSC-UK have been giving it the thumbs up as well. As for the music, is it worse that the shite in Sonic Adventure 2 on the DC? Some of the music in that was enough to ruin the game for me. Especially the awful rap music in Knuckles areas. Why on earth do Sega thing this type of poor BGM is necessary? Yakumo
Its really really shitty.... Worse then sonic adventure , I didn't actually mind it in SA:2 Maybe what makes it worse though is that it just suits the game so little. You think you should be hearing arabian nights and this heavy metal BS.
