Sonic bought by Viacom corp. ?

I was just scrolling trough some WiKi pages looking for what the gigacompanys all own and when I was reading the Viacom page I saw this!

First, was this deal completed ("Sega announced") ?
If yes, what does this mean ? Is Viacom earning money of the Sonic games and merchandesign? And can the dicide for example that Sonic will wear a string in is next game ?

 

Must be a mistake. That, or maybe they are talking about media explotation, you know, the cartoon series and it's related merchandise.

if anything its most likely referring to the cartoon, cause all viacom really specializes in is tv rights.

 

and paramount studios...you could see sonic at their amusement parks I guess..
