Thanks for the compliments! We probably won't do Beavis & Butthead because I personally think that it's awful and not worth discussion. If you want to know anything about it, feel free to ask, as I've played through the game.
I guess it's a good thing I saved the CGE article. I loved it . The rest of the site I never really read.
so it was never finished then they just gave us sonic 3d, which isnt bad but x-treme looks like would have been better silly sega
Sonic 3D The only reason Sonic 3D even appeared on the Saturn was because Sega wanted something quick and easy (a port!) to fill the void left by X-Treme's cancellation. Travellers Tales may have given the main game a slight visual upgrade, but to be honest the material wasn't exactly pushing the boundaries of 32-bit technology and it should have stayed on the MegaDrive. However, at least there was a redeeming feature in Sonic Team's polygonal remakes of the Sonic 2 bonus levels, though not even these had a flawless transition from the drawing board to playable code. In fact, at first it was former STi programmer Peter Morawiec who was responsible for creating special stages. Powered by his own Sphere Renderer graphics engine, these have since been collectively referred to as "Sonic 3D Pool" and were produced in mid-late 1996. Of course, this time frame and his links with STi has led to many suspecting that Morawiec was actually trying to salvage parts of the abandoned X-Treme project, but in the end Yuji Naka won yet another internal war of politics and managed to persuade someone that Sonic Team's idea would be more suited to the new edition of Sonic 3D - despite the fact that leaked Pool area screenshots depict a rather impressive demonstration of the Saturn's under-rated capabilities. This only complicates the long history behind X-Treme, though more importantly it has never been established whether Sonic Team designed their 3D stages in direct competition to Peter Morawiec's original concept or if they were also leftovers from another unknown development, perhaps even a phase of the Sonic World/Adventure timeline earlier than what we already know about? As you can probably tell by now, there have been few Sonic games that haven't had problems during their production, with both Sonic 2 and the so-called Crackers/Sonic 4/Chaotix also available for public dissection. Once the inevitable happens (that's X-Treme leaking, by the way... and it WILL - some day) we'll finally have all the information we need to come up with a brilliant documentation of the many pointless internal struggles that undoubtedly contributed to Sega's untimely demise.
Well, it's not as if the only copies are locked away in a vault, as is most likely with other unreleased Saturn games I could think of - especially a few AM2 titles! In fact, it's common knowledge thanks to the interviews conducted with certain former STi members by Sonic Cult (at least they were useful for something) that a few people still have boxes full of their work from X-Treme, including concept art and storyboards, both of which have already been leaked to an extent along with music and even sprites. Of course, if this game was backed up weekly that mean we could have multiple builds available for different engines. Although this would be great for anyone interested in comparing the various revisions this game experienced before finally being laid to rest, it's more realistic to assume that we'll probably get the most complete (PC?) version or perhaps just the E3 demos. Either way, this one's too important to disappear altogether...
http://sost.emulationzone.org/sonic_xtreme/ check out these Link. many screens, sprites, concepts, models, interviews, artworks and 2 Videos of Sonoc X-treme! I hope it will be sometime leaked. :douga
I say there's a better possibility of Sonic Xtreme being leaked than, say, Saturn Shenmue. I don't see it happening for a long time, though, if ever.
The problem with Shenmue Saturn Version is that we've already been treated to enough footage of it (thanks to Yu Suzuki's generosity) to determine that it would have been one of the console's best-looking swansongs. However, it's clear that Sonic X-Treme remains something of a sore spot for its developers and so far we've had to - much like the Biohazard 2 Prototype community - rely on whatever fans have been able to get their hands on. In fact, the video clips of X-Treme would be enough for me. My real concern is why AM2 haven't yet shown anything of Saturn Virtua Fighter 3, despite the fact that this game WAS highly anticipated while Shenmue's 32-bit origin came as a surprise to most when it first appeared as a bonus in the Dreamcast version of Shenmue II!
Hi, am here on behave of The Emerald Star Post (TESP) how are currenlty doing a Extreamlying large compain to find copies of Sonic X-Treme which we know almost for a FACT ARE somewhere. ANYONE who knowns ANYTHING! two people here have some knowledge of this. Even an old movie or have played it. PLEASE E-mail me at ManicMan8@hotmail.com (Subject needs to start with 'S-XTreme' so i know what this is about). If you have seen something or played it somewhere we want to know Where, when, what else you know! If you used to have a movie then where did you get it, do you know what happend? everything. If you could also say just about where you are (if you can say what town then great, but just what country you are in is fine) since this DOES matter. We already know some some of the team are in England so we are looking into that!
Are you guys going to steal it or something? I'm just kidding... At least one of the programmers supposedly has a copy, but I think they're pretty reluctant to give it up. Also, there were a few different versions made, so you have your work cut out for you.
A friend of mine was working for a Tv show at that time and they send him to cover the E3 96. There SEGA had a booth with Xtreme running in a standart saturn. He played the only available level and the boss. The demo was the original Xtreme based on the eyefish camera and the bug-like scenario. Dont expect anything from the exSTIs: im sure SEGA already forced them to sign a NDA.
Yakumo had a video of this which showed the game at it's most complete, or the most complete that I had seen it. It looked faster than all the other videos of the game that I had seen on the net, and it actually looked pretty good.I really wish this game had been released. I am a massive Sonic fan and I alway's thought he deserved a full 3d update on the Sega Saturn, a platform 3d game that is, Sonic R was great but we needed something along the line's of the MD titles.
I think this should be able to help you in your search for media on the game, as well as who to contact in the instance you want a copy of the game: http://blazefire.mooglecavern.com/xtreme/media.html
