The point was he's an idiot. I think he made it fairly well.

The fact that a developer made SOME of the assets used in a game doesnt give him any control over what Sega (HIS EMPLOYER) does with such a demo. The fact that the image was even made speaks volumes as to the brown nosing that goes on at those forums. Big deal, a guy was PAID to make a demo, he did. Someone else leaked it and now everyones acting like the developer (WHO WAS PAID!!!!) should get compensation? HAHAHAHHAA! Even funnier is the fact that they feel the need to say who created the demo? Its pretty much common knowlege who did, a Sega Employee. Its pretty clear the image was made just to snide Assembler and kiss up to the admin.

Ummm since when did anyone but sanik have a part in this?
Why do we have to suffer because sanik was an idiot?
(why did I have to sign up for both of these forums WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?)
I am going to be forced to pick sides arent I?

Seriously, can we go through a single Sonic Xtreme thread without a war breaking out? Personally, I couldn't care less about the game, but I feel for the people who want it or want to see more from it.

All this talk of a board war but I have yet to see any disruptions here.. I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion. Im just calling it like I see it.

I seriously dont get the attitude of some of these people. You would damn sure bet if someone with as high of a rep as Assembler offered 1.5 in a similar way Id be the first guy to jump on it. All this talk of hundreds of dollars when it was a mere 60 per person. Anyone with a job would have no trouble getting that kinda cash together. I guess it really speaks volumes about that kind of community: Idealistic Children.

Meh, "war" might have been a little dramatic. Either way, I don't see that any good will come from constantly rehashing what happened. If people want to know what happened, there are plenty of other threads with details.

Here is what I think happened
    1.asembler makes gif
    2.sanik does something stupid
3.assembler stops giving us data because he thinks the entire sonic community is like that.
    Please dont hurt me assembler.
Why are we all idealalistic children because we didnt throw money at assemblers feet?
The thing was only a day.
Not enough time to make a round on the internet.
Other than chris's website, here, and SOA's sonic boards I heard no other reports.
Plus the lack of media also killed it.

Well if the thread is any indication, the majority of people met him with skeptical looks even after his reputation was known to them. Kevin is just pissed off at the lack of response and more importantly the backlash he is now receiving from the Sonic "fans" when all he wanted to do was get the demo to the community.

Heres something to remember - He wasnt making any money off this. His intentions were pure and he got shit on. If you were in his situation, wouldnt you be pissed off?

What point was that? I read the thread and I still didn't understand the point he was trying to make (I'm talkinga bout Sanik).

I do not understand the list at all, maybe im over looking something?
Im not here to defend assembler or who ever may have hosted that video before hand, to be hounest, I could careless, and once again Sonic X is getting out of hand. If the video isnt assemblers, then I feel credit should be giving to where it may be due.

On another note, kill the sonic x crap...turning ugly once again...

Well some of the people didnt know who assembler even WAS so they didnt trust him.
If I had had the money at the time (and wasnt on a trip) I would have surely pledged.
Yeah I would be pissed but not enough to stop me from realising media.
Everyone is an idiot at SOME point in there lives.
BTW:Sanik was trying to give chris coffin credit for the boss engine he alredy got payed for creating.

I believe he was going to pay for half of the game and the rest via the pledges (well those who would actually live up to the pledge) and those who pledged would get a copy of it too. However, another collector probably offered more money and was, and still is, completly discreet about it.

If you read through the thread at their boards you would see all those points I mentioned addressed. However, if you insist Ill do your legwork.

    1. Who Assembler is

    2. His reputation

    3. Which build Assembler was offering for the community dump

The build being offered for the community dump was NOT the one in the gif's Assembler posted. Yet another beta lost to ignorance and stupidity :-(

This is what I've been able to cobble together as to what happened.

    1. Assembler posts auction. People start pooling money to buy it, and people start posting wanting to buy copies of the game from Assembler (Instead of asking to bid on the game itself).
    2. Someone posts a link to the auction to The Sennitnet site
    3. Assembler's authnenticity is called into question because all the people there have never really heard of him.
    4. Assembler posts in his defence about the auction and it's legitimacy.
    5. Assembler posts the GIF with "assemblergames.com" watermark to show who captured the initial video and converted it to GIF format. Video shows part of the game, Assembler posts a message with the GIF "you'll live" to intice people into bidding on the game.
    6. Sanik misinterprets the "assemblergames.com" watermark as a copyright from Assembler, Sanik crops off the GIF's "Assemblergames.com" watermark and replaces it with the name of the Programmer that worked on the version of the game in the GIF, Chris Coffin because "there was a problem with the GIF" The "you'll live" comment backfires causing problems instead of increased interest in the disc.
    7. Assembler decides that he won't release anymore information because Sanik took his watermark the wrong way and acted like an asshole.

This wasnt a capture from the build being offered for the community dump. It is from the earlier sale to a collector during the "ratman scandal".

    Simple

Sonic community raises money for disc.
Ratman makes fake 3k bid promising everyone a copy of the disc.
Ratman revealed to be a fraud.
Disk winds up in hands of private collector.

A recap for the un-informed as to the recent Sonic Xtreme build debocle:
    • Assembler posts http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8987 that thread in the hopes of getting enough people to show enough interest in a release of a new build of Sonic Xtreme out, one that is supposedly near complete.
    • Assembler gets bombarded with 65+ IM's in the span of 2 minutes, because of this the first post was edited with harsh words but were required to get attention.
    • Everything is going ok up until 17 people have shown interest. At which point, there is a sharp drop in people who are willing to pay.
    • Sonic communities get wind and begin acting foolishly, doubting the legitimacy. They request pictures.
    • Assembler denies this, as he doesnt want to show his cards until he sees that there is enough interest. This fuels rumors of it being false.
    • The seller of the beta begins to show signs that too much pressure is being exerted over this, and as such pulls it from the market.
    • Sonic fans rejoice as their "dream is still intact".
    • Anonymous collector offers lots of money and wins said beta.
Older build, the one seen in pictures info:
    • Dev contacts Redeye requesting him to broker an auction.
    • Assembler agree's to hold a topic here for it
    • Bids go high, with an Anonymous collector being at the top
    • Sonic community begins collecting a fund and is almost at the point of beating the collector when...
    • Ratman puts in a huge bid and promises he will release it to the community
    • Auction ends, Ratman pulls out and it goes to the Collector
    • Sonic fans pissed, though its their own fault, they could have kept raising money since the RedEye even said if someone drops out, it goes to the next highest bidder.

    Since when did we rejoice?
You (dot50cal) made it sound as if we were TRYING to f*ck up the auction.
Someone was just trying to look on the bright side.
Also not everyone knows who assembler is so give it a rest alredy:rolleyes: .
Didnt the sonic community also raise money to the point that the couldnt anymore?
I think everyone's pockets had run dry at that point.
