I found about 300 Magazines that I bought when I was a kid.. I found this and wanted to share it.. There are tons more like Castlevania for dreamcast I will get my scanner out and make some high-res scans.. but until then,
Wow, I remember those shots. That's when there was no fisheye lense FX or at least from stages that didn't use it. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait for the scans.
I have that exact magazine still sitting around. Scanned a bunch of magazines like it a few years ago and posted them here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?5808-Im-back-and-I-brought-presents
Great stuff, seeing stuff like this still makes me sad inside. Really would like to play that at some point in my life.....
Would be neat to see more of the Saturn version and just how far it got. Quite frankly uninterested and tired of seeing that PC version. Forget if there was something else out there confirmed in some collectors hands or not.
I really wish I could get my hands on copies of this show called "The Anti-Gravity Room" because there was an episode where the host played the metal sonic level for a minute or two. It was a Canadian-American co-production by YTV and the Sci-fi channel mostly about comic books.
Sandman over on the sentient forums got a lead ! http://www.senntient.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2050 Edit: Also not sure if this confirms anything but check out the description ! http://www.locatetv.com/tv/anti-gravity-room/1501128
It's going to be really tuff finding that show. Tried looking at various torrents sites and its a no go. I'll keep trying
I think it goes without saying no one's finding this through Google searches, whether its torrent sites or whatever. Best best it finding some sort of VHS trading community or something with people that would have very old recordings like this and making a request post. I assume sites like that exist, anyway.
So why is the assembler version so different than the one shown in these pics? Is the assembler game's release a test engine demo?
it's a very very early proof of concept demo. it's sonic running around in a green field using a engine similar to the full game.
Well, one of the engines. Sonic Xtreme at different times used 3 (possibly more?) different engines, depending on when in development it was and what platform it was running on. The classic fisheye one that we see in most videos is running on a PC and the last engine, the one whose assets got leaked a long while back. There is also at least one engine running on the NiGHTS engine, a separate boss and level engine, and probably a few other saturn engines out there. None of them really got far into development aside from the PC one, though.
I'm under the impression it's the most similar to the "leaked" assets version of the game [I think Senn himself leaked them]
Speaking with Mike Wallis threw various emails it was confirmed that the Fisheye engine was running successfully on Sega Saturn with a playable FPS The engine was fixed up by Chris Coffin. here's the e-mail he sent in reply to some questions I wanted to ask. ( was doing research on Xtreme for the fangame I've been working on)
The one with Sonic running on the grass? Admittedly I've not kept up on latest research, but I always assumed it was one of the early nights engine builds, given that the background for Metal Sonic's boss stage appears as a texture in the binary, and the boss engine was confirmed to run on the NiGHTS engine at one point.
