Picked this up over the weekend and really need more info on it. https://imgur.com/ICE3idX https://imgur.com/Q6ii0Ke
It is the network/HDD adaptor for the DTL-T10000 TOOL. I am not sure whether SCE shipped this network adaptor or the SCPH-10190 for the DTL-H10000, but I read that the DTL-T10000 needs this because of space constrains.
If it's like the DTL-H10040 then maybe it was only supposed to be sold to people for use with TOOLS http://atariage.com/forums/topic/21...ystation-2-development-hardware-and-software/ A box picture would help, but it was bundled in the DTL-H10030 hdd kit for TOOLS http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RARE-SONY-PS...a0c1b9f&pid=100011&rk=1&rkt=1&sd=301239957959 It's not a space constraint as far as I can see http://s54.photobucket.com/user/oli_lar/media/DSCN1025.jpg.html A SCPH-10190 looks like it would fit in a TOOL http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/201012/18/22/b0030122_9575351.jpg It appears it's just to make it easier to plug and unplug the Ethernet cable rather than reaching round behind. I don't know why they didn't just supply an extension lead with it, cynically I'd say they created it so they could charge more for the DTL-H version. But the DTL-H10040 is the rare one and that doesn't have the built in extension cable https://www.assemblergames.com/foru...-DTL-H10040-ethernet-and-modem-pcmcia-adapter.
I own both 10010 and 10040. Both work on the tool perfectly. 10010 and the TOOL HDD (with a small stand) is more convenient for connection only.
I remember using my SCPH-10190 with my DTL-T10000 for both HDD and network development, so okay. It was probably designed like smf mentioned, as the TOOL is huge and heavy. I mentioned that it might have been a feature due to space constrains, as I thought that someone mentioned that before on these forums. But I don't think that it was about greed. These units were made few in numbers, plus it should have been more expensive to bundle an extension cord instead (the extra male and female connector pairs would make it cost more).
Doing a production run in small numbers is likely to cost more though, especially if it ends up using a different case. While other people already make extension cables and have driven the price down. Greed is usually the answer to why people do things
I believe the actual point is reduce the possibility of mistakes on the cable connections as the "user" would know that the cable with the prong is supposedly the network connection for the TARGET side, not the DEBUGGER side of the network ports.
Hit-Japan want like 25USD for a retail one. They can be bought for like 1000 yen each on YJ tested. For the DTL one, it would be fair consider that it would be worth at least twice as much as a retail set, no ? There's a complete kit on ebay (network card + HDD + powersupply) for 50USD. Maybe watch how much that sells when the auction end for gauging it. I would like to get one surely because I have two of those HDDs without the adapters.
What else are you hoping to know? Such a card isn't very special, as it's just the developer equivalent of the SCPH-10190. BTW, I just realized something. That extension looks like it can be removed.... have you (or perhaps anyone else here) tried removing it?
I'm near 100% certain that the extension can be removed- unscrew the bottom and pop it out of the normal (retail-style) jack. If you've ever used a retail card on a TOOL, you'll notice that actually unplugging an ethernet cable from the card while plugged in can be a total mess, usually resulting in skinned knuckles or accidentally pulling the pcmcia card out while in use (a big no-no). This is why the card has an extension. EDIT: In american markets, aka eBay- as of late, the DTL card seems far cheaper and more accessible than the SCPH. Personally I wouldn't pay over double of the retail value (if that) unless you're looking at a NIB kit.
