The Sony HMZ-T1 is a 3DTV that you wear on your head. While such devices aren't quite new, the HMZ-T1 features two 720P displays for 3D gaming.

I always loved the Virtual Boy for its great 3D effect. It had no ghosting or flickering and your eyes where totally focused on the screen due to the eyeshield.

I'm not interested in the 3D TV's which are currently available (due to the limitations), but with this thing 3D gaming could be awesome. Unfortunately it will cost $800 :crying:

Saw this yesterday on Engadget and This is my next... and I have to say I am quite interested in such a device.

There's no way I'm replacing my current 50" plasma and I think the kids are too young to be going anywhere near current 3D tech, including the 3DS. Even the new Toshiba ZL2, whilst mighty impressive, apparently isn't perfect.

One of these plugged into the PS3 for 3D Blu Rays and games could be rather cool though. I'd like to have a decent go with one to see if it's comfortable and if it makes my eyes bleed. I didn't get on well with the 3DS as it hurt my eyes, but it would seem having a separate screen for each eye solves some of the problems with current 3D systems.

The problem with this is that you look like an even bigger idiot that wearing those 3D shades.

Sega make an arcade game with a full 3D screen that you don't need any glasses for at all. The effect is very good. I'll post a picture of it when I get home.

That's pretty cool, but $800 is a lot of money for a pair of glasses. Still, if I had money to blow I'd get one.

Interesting fact: this is not the first wearable display Sony's released. In the late 90's, I think, they released something called the Glasstron. It was just like this thing but in SD and not 3D. It was basically marketed the visual equivalent of headphones. It was pretty expensive at the time, too. I remember seeing a pair at the Sony Store in Chicago, but unfortunately they didn't let you demo them. You can get them for pretty cheap on eBay nowadays, though.

Definitely interested, would love to try them out playing PS3/360/PC games on them Xp
If they worked good enough, i'd probably wait until you can find one second hand for cheap or a price drop.

Might be interested if they work with emulators for Virtual Boy and other 3D systems such as SMS, NES, PC-E etc.

I got a feeling this thing will flop. Interesting technology but I am curious how it does on the eyes after a while. I am more interested in the 24in 3d screen they are making.

You can use these on a few PS2 titles, the Energy Airforce series supports them.

There was a thread about that a while ago. I don't think those games used the Glasstron glasses, though. I believe they used a special set that had motion sensors inside. Anyone remember the thread I'm talking about? I believe ASSEMbler posted it.

Obviously this helmet was designed to be used with the Playstation 3 3D games and watching 3D blu-ray's. Too bad it has got nothing to do with Virtual Reality, as there is no build in headtracking. Maybe they can do some tracking with the Playstation Eye, but for that it should have some markers on the outside, like a couple of led's.

When a helmet like this is combined with headtracking and a couple good games, i'm standing in line to buy it.
