Well I guess this doesn't spell the entire end for the Cell in terms of Sony's use of it, but I got my hopes up for a second there. I was a fanboy of the PS3 right until specs comparing the 360 and PS3 came out and interviews with developers using both.

For sure whatever Sony picks for the 'PS4' won't be x86, but it would be decent of them to at least continue the Cell thing so developers can actually have enough time to unlock that 'secret power'.

I'd really like it if they stuck with the Cell also because they'd have to find a more clever marketing scheme than after switching to "new arch x" and claiming the age-old "reality-level graphics!!1" that every 3d console was supposed to bring.

I refuse to buy a PS3 (not even for LittleBigPlanet) but I at least hope the work being put into the PS3's arch isn't a complete waste and the knowledge gained will be relevant somehow.

Well IBM is already researching into 32nm manufacturing process, and AMD is going to launch 12-core CPU.

Who cares actually, SONY is pretty damn doomed with the PS3, for example, when I go to a Cash Converters, I see: the up-to-the-ceiling mountain of PS2 games, piles of Xbox and Game Cube games, some Wii shit games (kid movie games, etc), some old 360 games (very few), and a HUGE LOAD of PS3 games (even some are sealed), Resistance, F1, Uncharted, Assasins Creed, mostly all the "killer" games are there for sale. So, why is everyone selling they're PS3 games? I've seen even 5 boxed PS3's at the same time for sale. PS3 games, at the start, they sold for 40€ or so (second hand), now, they sell for 20€, when there're PS2 games that cost that USED.

That's just a real example of what happens with that machine. Whoever who has a Wii is happy with it, whoever who has a 360 doesn't care about red lights because they have two hundred of copied games and getting a brand new 360 costs less than the half of a PS3.

Of course it's just my impression, and it's what I think watching what I see. Rental shops carry loads of DS and 360 games and a handful of PS3 games which are never rented.

Of course, no one knows what is going to happen to them but, here at least, the scene seems a bit fucked up.

PD: Sony electronics suck. My dad has a Sony Ericsson T630 phone and, besides from having random glitches and freezing, the paint is peeling off and now it is half white - half plastic grey. My Nokia 3650 which is alredy 5 years old is still working like a charm, and in a perfect visual state. My grandma bought a CD player in the late 80's which died something like three years after, and told her that repairing it would be more expensive than buying a new one. All I say is from personal experience, I perhaps just have some really bad luck.

Haha. Cash Converters, the wise old sage of console gaming doom. No XB360s because of the reliability issues probably. No Wiis because they sell them as soon as they arrive.

For those of you that arent in spain nor have been, is interesting to observe how games there, while not as expensive than in say, sweden, are cheaper than in latin america, specially when you consider the GIP of spain compared to that of most of those countries.

What I mean is that spaniard gamers seem to rely a LOT on piracy, without having shall we say a "good reason" to do so.

I still remember some years ago when gamers there were always talking about the PSX being the number one console just becos it was easy to pirate (not true since the Saturn was actually easier).

IMO the reason why the PS3 is doing so bad there is becos you cant run pirated copies on it. Not saying everybody does it, but what I think is that most people want to know that the possibility is there, so if one day they cant afford a game they can always rely on piracy to get it.

The moment theres an easy way to run pirates on the PS3 the moment sales will increase.

    My two cents.

Well, in the second hand shops of my city (Cash Converters and such) I rarely see PS3 games or systems, and if they appear they're usually crap like Def Jam Icon or games like that (been searching for a nice copy of Resistance, Lair and Folklore for less than 30€ for a while). 360 games are way more common, and Wii games, if you're looking for stupid movie adaptations.

I've seen only two second hand PS3 and two Wii consoles, both of them appeared around their respective launch date in the shops, charging like 50€ less than retail. 360's are, again, more common here (core model).

As Shadowlayer has said, piracy here is a really important factor (although the sales of original games have continuosly increased these late years). PS3 sales will increase as soon as there's a method to use copies. But again, this console is doing much better here than in USA, for example, selling more than the xbox, at least till its last price reduction.

I personally would like to own a PS3 - just not for the games. It's a nice little do-it-all box with a slick design, but the gaming experience on it is subpar compared to the competition.

Yeah, probably could be that, the PSX won basically because chipping it was so easy (lots of small shops, not GAME, etc, did sell brand new PSXs with bundled modchips with them, alredy installed.

Well screw you all im selling my box360 and wii and just keeping the PS3.

The box just isn't reliable enough to keep rather just get rid. The wii meh just nothing interests me and to be honest the controls just get on my tits after a bit.

Just need GTA4 to come out and that my weekends booked up for the next few months...

lol, i hear that. just a couple more days now. i think GTA4 is the only game that can pull me away from Halo for more than a week. it's not that Halo 3 is an amazing game or anything, it's just my competitive nature.
