Anyone ever seen or used 'Reality Quest's' SLEH-00012 controller called 'The Glove' ?

I've had one in my attic for a long time and never even attempted to use it until today. Going through a pile of PS1 stuff I am giving to my nephew I stumbled across 'The Glove' and couldn't resist having a shot.

The Playstation really does have a massive number of strange controllers! Wonder whether the PS2 would accept it for any titles.... Hmmm?

i remember an ad for it in a magazine.

and yes, the playstation had its fair share of strange controllers.

    like the one-handed rpg controller.

Never seen that controller before... thought I'd pretty much seen them all including chainsaws, batons (orchestra), train sim controllers, dance mats, drum pads, DJ decks... the list just goes on and on!

Well, you learn something new everyday. So how does the controller play?

Actually, it's not too bad - it can be set to either sensitive, mildly sensitive or you need to wave harder mate! It actually tracks your wrist movements. The thumb controllers are a bit tight got my big hands and it feels like it was designed for someone a little smaller than me. Once you get to grips with it, it's actually not bad at all. Far better than the original pre-thumbstick PS1 controllers.

Still getting used to it though...

I first came across one of these on ebay some moons back & was curious enough to grab it. It's been a while since I tinkered with it, but it worked fairly well (better than I expected), but was kind of tiring on your wrist after a while. I can't remember how (if) it fared on PS2 stuff - maybe I'll dig it out later & have another play with it.

Did they ever produce any kind of 'helmets' for the PS or PS2? One of those virtual nonsense?

    Yes, for the PS2:

I have one, it works great, just a shame there are too few titles actually using the head tracking system...

The first thing I have seen in ages where I just immediately think 'I want a shot!'

Any images / videos of it actually at work?

Did you ever get that up & running UJ? I'd love to know how that went! Was it worth the $$$ for the experience with the limited software that's out there?

Parris, some pictures can be found here:

I'm not sure why you would want a video of it working, I can make one if you push me enough!

limey, the quality of the video is not very great neither in composite nor in svideo, it's hard to read in-game text (wearing glasses under the "helmet" is not really easy, another piece of hardware for people without eyes problems...)
I have the flight simulator title, the tracking system sometimes doesn't return to the correct initial position even though your head is, luckily there is a reset button on the back of one of the speakers.
The other "game" I have is "Virtual View RCT Eyes Play", the FourthView 360° video player works great, as does the video player from the Sony Dreamworld Theater.
Your virtual train driving game might support it too, I don't know, look at the back of the box.

Of course, it's probably not worth the 30000/40000 yens it usually goes for on YAJ for only one good game, unless you're a collector of unusual stuff and commercial failures!

    Consider yourself pushed... <topple!> ;-)

Can't imagine anyone else here paying through the nose for some weird item of this ilk.... apart from me, Limey, Sequential oh perhaps Port, er... half of the Sony folks on this site.

    It's a nice item UJ.

I used to have one of these. Only found it useful for Final Fantasy games as the slow pace made it easy to deal with. Never felt natural.

Parris, I have some pictures and videos of the PUD-J5A, I'm gonna highjack your thread!
In the box you'll find the following:

To test them I used 3 PS2 titles, the first is the Fourthview video player used in an old (2002-2003) Sony event, the Dreamworld Theater, the other two are RCT Virtual View (wich features an upgraded version of the video player, allowing for a zoom and up/down tracking) and Energy Airforce.

A few screenshots of the Fourthview player, as seen in the glasses and on my wall:

    [IMG][IMG]

The Headtracking capabilities of the Headset are shown in the manual:

Here's a single frame from the 360° video played by the Fourthview video player.

I made a few videos, don't bother complaining about the quality.
The sound issue is due to the projector's fan, a bit too loud...
Fourthview video player without the HT enabled, the PoV is controlled with the analog stick.
The same, this time with the HT enabled.
    RCT Virtual View 360° video
    Energy Airforce

Just watched the video footage UJ. Nice! I particularly liked the Japanese girls in the photoshoot! Wife wondered what the hell I was watching :) I also liked the addition of the little panoramic bar at the bottom and the square indicating which area you were looking at.

Bump...ish. Honestly, I searched for the manual on google and came to this thread.

Nobody would happen to have the manual for the glove controller laying about, or know where I could find a pdf of it. Apparently you can modify the directional controls and I'd like to, given that mine had a weird kink where the gears will stick moving my wrist down then up (left and right on the controller).

I remember hearing about that, it looked cool, but as I was poor (and didn't have a PS2 at the time), it never came to my house.
