    Hello all.

I just got a 60 GB PS3 and it seems the fan kicks into high gear after only around 5 minutes of general use (no gaming). I have it properly ventilated and the like, so I do not think that is the issue. The system itself works perfectly, but I do admit this makes me a little nervous. I have a 40 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Kojima PS3 and it does not exhibit this same behavior at all.

Is this normal? Is it a sign this console is going to crap out on me in the near future? Any info/guidance would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance all.

My 60gb is in a semi-enclosed area. It will idle with the fans at full blast after 10 minutes or so. I need to pull it out and set it elevated in the middle of the room and see how it holds up.

My warranty is void (I bought that one with a blown PSU) so if anyone recommends any internal mods (new thermal paste, etc), I'm willing to give it a try.

From what i read on some brazilian gaming messageboards, it seems that you need to open it and replace the thermal paste.

I'm not an expert on this, but i guess it's a good advice, since you have one of the first models. But check for more info and guidelines before doing anything.
