Has anyone ever had one of these? I picked up my first set the other day. Pretty cool stuff. They're basically a set of Glasstron display glasses but they're made for certain PS2 games only, the ones that utilize the technology. It's an HUD unit that pans the surroundings when you turn your head, so if you're flying a plane and look to the left using the glasses you actually see out of the left side of the plane. I only know about 3 games that use the glasses; it never really caught on. It connects to a PS2 via the AV cables and the USB cable as well.
That sounds pretty awesome. Is there some sort of battery you can use with it, or is it AC power only? Can you use it with any composite video source, or just the PS2?
I posted about those two years ago: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=312261&postcount=14 Japan-Games, I have 5 titles that can use the headtracking, plus the 4thview video player I released last year. Three of them are flight simulations: Energy Airforce, its sequel Energy Airforce Airstrike! and SidewinderV (known as Lethal Skies 2 in Europe and the USA, I don't know if the PAL and NTSC/U releases still have the headtracking though) http://www.ea-web.com/ea/en/index.html http://sidewinder.asmik-ace.co.jp/ The fourth is a rollercoaster/theme park simulation from the Simple2000 series: http://www.d3p.co.jp/s_20/s20_033.html The fifth is "Virtual View R.C.T. Eyes Play": http://www.ponycanyon.co.jp/eizoplay/ It's possible that the game Over the Monochrome Rainbow supports the "PUD", but only as a gimmick like the Virtual View series (only to play a few 360° videos) Wich leads me to my avatar, the Fourthview technology is about recording and playing a 360° video using a special camera, read my post about it: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18406 It comes with an AC adapter and you can use it with any composite or s-video source.
I didn't know about the other two games. I have both Energy Airforce games and Sidewinder V. I'm a big fan of theme park simulations so I wish I had that one... You can use them for anything that takes a composite port, but in terms of 360 degree viewing, that only works on games made specifically with the goggles in mind.
Are the games expensive as well due to their exclusive feature or are they going for cheap? I'd like to try that, but I guess it is as disappointing as the many similar devices. What do you guys think about it? unclejun, Japan-Games?
The games are cheap (I briefly looked at their prices on ebay.de, there are a few under 10€ but you'd better import them yourself. Be sure to get the japanese versions if you go down the ebay route cause I doubt the PAL ones support the "PUD"). Energy Airforce is as low as 200 yens on Yahoo right now and it's even cheaper on amazon.jp (you can find one at the bargain price of 96 yens), the Simple 2000 game is around 1700 on a Yahoo store. What I think, well you could try the device and the few titles that exist including the 360° video player, and sell it later as a bundle with all the compatible games you found, you shouldn't lose any money that way, if you decide to get rid of it that is. ASSEMbler, funnily enough, they never go for less...so atleast they retain some value, even when there are more than one for sale at the same time. Japan-Games, how much did you pay yours? Mmh, trying to make a quick buck out of a naive buyer, are you not?:fresh:
I got both Airforce games for 1,000 yen, maybe? And Sidewinder was new/sealed for about 1,000 yen. Naive buyer? If you know the perfect sales price for this then please let me know. The last one on Yahoo ended at 30,000 yen but it didn't meet the Seller's reserve. Prices are up and down, I just got lucky when I got mine. If your patient and don't mind hunting for a couple of months you can probably pick it up for around there or a bit less, plus shipping and commissions you're probably going to be close to $400 if you buy from Japan. But also the conditions vary between auctions.
Woah, never knew these existed. Would have been cool, but I'm sure they were very expensive on release.
@Japan-Games.com, do you perhaps know the default password for using the Sony PUD-J5A? And/or do you know how to factorty reset this unit?
