I know it has already been done with home-brew/hacking the exploits of early firmware. But it seems Sony is going to release an "update" with an internet browser. But then again the update will block all the other fun stuff you can do with earlier firmware.

There are no real details yet, at least not in this article. But in any case, something to keep an eye on.

So, I could check my Email and the threads over here on the PSP?

    EDIT:
    Cool!

    Dumb question:
Does this mean I can download emulators on the PSP and run them? I so want to play Snes ROMS on a handheld. :smt033

    no, don't worry about it.
It will, of course, destroy ability to play any homebrew apps, until it's cracked. But its taken a while to crack 1.51 and 1.52, so you could be waiting a while - its a case of choosing between web browser or homebrew.

I don't think the browser supports java or flash or anything fancy, but yes, you probably could check webmail etc. on it. As long as you are connected to a wireless network, of course.

    Is emulation considered homebrew?

It's all good, I was just kidding around

I wonder if they will have any other limitations on the browser?? Such as blocking sites that promote homebrew apps.

    Yes

And I doubt it has any limitations on particular sites, however I haven't tried it as I have no wireless, and I like my emulators!

i had the same feeling for like a second or two. but then i remembered this firmware will probably make system bypass harder, so emulation and hombrew will certainly get even more long and difficult to do. On the other hand, the gpx2 is made for this thing: homebrew and emu. you plug, you updload and that's it. And... Game park holdings didn't lock the sido support, so hombrew will be able to get wireless sd cards to work, so if this can be done, why couldn't the gpx2 surf the web too? plus, gph will update the firmware on the website, so official support may be done in the future, just like the psp (at the release date). and gpx2 is still cheaper and have more memory.

don't go on to the other side of the force yet mate. :p

i doubt so. well, there was that unoficial psp firmware coming from sony itself that had good ideas.

Has the firmware 1.51 been cracked already?

Anyway, with all the troubles of getting a 1.50 PSP, I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon. I do wish I could add a custom wallpaper on my PSP...

Anyone with a v2.00 PSP, care to take a pic of Assembler Forums & posting it? :D
