I heard at dctalk forums that soul reaver 2 was being developed for dreamcast but was eventually cancelled due to the discontinue of the dreamcast. Here is one site that I found that has pictures of the dreamcast version http://www.thelostworlds.net/SR2/Soul_Reaver_2_for_the_Sega_Dreamcast.html Do you think we could ever get the game on dreamcast?
Been after it for years and do not even know a private collector with it in their collection. It is probably sitting right next to Castlevania somewhere. While the Dreamcast has seen it's fair share of unreleased games not many were high profile and most will probably never see the light of day I am afraid.
Speaking of Castlevania Resurrection, I do hope it sees the light of day. I think it would have been another bad Castlevania 64 style game though.. The Dreamcast version of Soul Reaver 2 was scrapped early on in development and as such it is an early alpha. From what I've gathered around the web, they didn't go far with it and it was mainly test rooms and such. So it's nothing special. As with any other collector, I'd love to have it one day.
I really do not think it wouod have been bad at all from game play footage. Sadly it was supposed to be a launch title like Geist but here in the states but they scraped it late in development as they were not sure about Sega's third party support just yet. Why after they fully supported they did not go back to a nearly complete game and give rabid fans what they wanted is beyond me. The Dreamcast had and still has some of the best games ever made and interesting approach to hardware as well.
Hey Atreyu....what unreleased games or betas, or at least alphas, do you think that has possibilities of being finally leaked to the gamers of this list: Black and White Max Payne Gunvalkyrie Commandos 2 Pro Skater 3 Sega Worldwide Soccer 2001 Arcade 3-in-1 (Jambo Safari/Brave Firefighter/Emerg.Ambulance) Innocent Tears Take the Bullet Test Drive Cycles Agartha Colin McRae 2.0 Midnight GT Baldurs Gate
- Max Payne was hardly ported to the DC according to a member here, very early alpha - Commandos 2 has a couple missions ported to the Dreamcast and very very very low framerate, almost not playable - Take the Bullet is in GD-R form in a collector's hands. 45% finished version - Test Drive Cycles. 2 or 3 builds in collector's hands. 1 level playable. - Colin McRae 2.0. A GD-R of the game is supposed to be in collector's hands - Dee Dee Planet: various GD-Rs exist. I don't know about the others.
Judging by these screenshots. I strongly believe they are taken from an emulator, 2 things tell me that. The transparent glitches on the sword's light beam, typical Dreamcast emulators inaccuracy, and what seems to be some kind of trilinear filtering instead of the native Dreamcast's mipmaps. Hopefully someone has a build of the game up and running and some day he/she will be kind enough to share.
These shots are from ign.com and were made around 2000: www.ign.com/games/soul-reaver-2-legacy-of-kain/dc-14612
I´m 100% sure that the beta which was taken those screenshots exist . The game looks pretty much the same as the PS2 version, except for the Raziel model, which seems to be the exact model of the DC version of the 1st Soul Reaver (which have an amount of detail between the original model of PSX, and the final 3k poly model of SR2). My question is...there could exist a beta which have the final 3k poly model of Raziel on DC?
The developer mentioned the 3k model of raziel was already in the game during ign interview.I think up to the release of the first gameplay trailer they claimed despite the footage being ps2 the dreamcast version looked the same.
