Okay, thanks. I never bothered before since there's no RGB-output, but I should finally get around to it.

The composite out of this thing is surprisingly great. It is less filtered than on the gameboy player so it looks sharper even compared to my Gameboy player using the component cable.

Really? Okay, now I have to try it. I just ordered one from Amazon and will review it when it arrives.

    Are you using a CRT?

I use an NEC XM29 and a Sony PVM, so if nothing else, it'll be better then a consumer-grade CRT.

Ok! Then you are properly equipped to experience the sexy scanlines this thing will give you.

Just do not forget that this thing might have bad sound out of the box, but I imagine you know that since this is the very topic of the thread.

Thank you @MaxWar for the awesome tutorial on this. However I made a mistake and now my Ad Adapter does not display video :( (sound if Ok) I was trying to get rid of the buzzing noise as it is very annoying for me, and by mistake I used a 47nf capacitor instead of a 3nf ( I thought it was a 4.7nf) could I have blown the R5 resistor? do you think replacing it could make it work again? r what do you think could have happen? or is my unit dead now? :(

    any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hi, undo the mod and it should work again. Unless you broke something else somehow. It is normal to lose picture if you use a too high value, but it should not do any permanent damage. It is not impossible but you should be fine.

Before you try with a different cap, test it stock first.

Thanks for the reply, I undid the mod and it still the same issue, it was working fine before that, and I can still hear sound, the video is just black with some blue and red spots moving all along the screen so I am assuming the R5 might have been damaged (even tho I was very careful soldering, and it was a near perfect solder job if I say so myself) but I wanted to ask for your opinion,

It is extremely unlikely R5 is damaged. In any case it is very easy to verify with a multimeter. You should verify the area your worked on with a multimeter. Checking that continuity is good in the circuit. Most likely there is a short or a bad joint somewhere.

If there is permanent damage it will be in the Glob top Asic, if the video signal is shorted to ground it might put strain on the chip and it is hard to say how well it will tolarate it. I dont think it would fry it, at least not immediately but who knows.

Using a too high cap value from video to ground effectively acts as if you shorted Video to ground. But then 47 nf should bot be that high.

damn :( sounds like I am screwed then. since I checked with a magnifier eye and I see no bad traces or bridges, also checked it with the multimeter it all seems ok as far as bridges go, but the R5 reads in Mohms instead of the 390Ohms it should be, I assumed that was because it was in circuit. So it might be as you say and the glob chip got damaged :( well, we break stuff, we learn, right? :) Thanks for the replies!

Hey @MaxWar just to let you know, I replaced the R5 resistor and the AD Adapter is back to working state :) buzzing sound and all :p going to get a 3nf capacitor to make the mod as it should be :)
