Looking to upgrade a few systems with better cables. Would appreciate some recommendations on where to source some 80 wire ribbon cables.
    Thanks.

You're aware that performance isn't that noticeable with this. It was only 'considered' to be an upgrade, but really isn't.

...not that noticeable, or not at all? Was thinking about doing this mod too, since it's cheap and takes next to no effort.

    Best ribbon cables

The 40-wire Xbox IDE ribbon cable is about 22 inches long with the DVD connector near the 8 inch mark. A good 24 inch replacement (80 wire) would probably do just fine. Guess I start looking and see what I can find.

I am in the UK and I bought these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000X7Y0KG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

The length was pretty much perfect and the quality was very good.

As Hex says - you will struggle to see any benefit and that is certainly true with an IDE drive. But they do come into their own when upgrading to a SATA drive - many SATA > IDE adapters won't work reliably or even at all without the 80 wire cable.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers, Mark

    IDE - SATA

    An important distinction. Thank you.

Aye, all of my SATA adapter/drive combinations require an 80-wire for them to work.

As for a source, I'm finding plenty of round IDE cables (all or almost all are 80-wire) on ebay. Plenty of fancy colors available, too.

They are rather difficult to attach but it's possible.
