I'm trying to get the UK (if that matters) version of South Park Rally (by Tantalus/Acclaim) to work on my Win8.1 64bit PC. I've seen people say it works on Windows Vista and even Win7 64bit, so I was hoping I might get somewhere. It installs fine, and patches fine (the 1.01 patch), but running the config or game throws this into the games own debug.log file... I've tried compatibility modes in Win8.1 but nothing helps much. I also tried a no-CD crack, and copying part of the game files from my old XP machine, so far nothing works. Here's the log file (no compatibility modes): With compatibility mode set to XP (SP2), the log file looks like this: Also, Windows Event Viewer logs this: Anyone got any ideas? I tried in ACT the profile for South Park Rally, but that doesn't work either, throwing a Windows Event Viewer log of: p.s. I realise the game's a bit rubbish, and there's an N64/Dreamcast version that can be emulated, but that's not the point :-D
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.3.9600.17278, time stamp: 0x53eeb4a3 That is your problem, ntdll.dll is a core file in all NT operating systems including Windows 8. I doubt it'll ever run, it is probably trying to run a function in ntdll.dll that no longer exists. You could try copying that file form your windows xp into the game's install directory however ntdll.dll links to many other files so this rarely allows a program to run. The only time I ever succeeded with that was with the reg.exe registry utility when trying to get a version running on Windows NT 3.50 using files from 3.51 and 4.0. Just be careful because this can crash your computer.
Anyone happen to know if this uses the same engine as the SP FPS that came before it ("day of the meteor" I believe)? If so, forget it. That'll only run on a true 9x system.
