play the remake on DS or PSP. It's ****ing awsome and the best remake of space invaders yet.

Japan has it already and USA gets it in july i believe (europe will probably also get it this summer).

Indeed, the background is very 80s-like too.

Speaking of remakes, check this game

Is like Missile Commander meets Rez:thumbsup:

When I first came to Japan and was teaching English I had a student who claimed that he came up with the final concept for Sapce Invaders. He claimed that he was the one who came up with the idea of the aliens coming down from the sky, or something to that effect. I didn't put too much stock in it but he didn't really have the type of personality to embellish his stories so I mentally filed it away as a "maybe." heh

Last year there was a documentary on TV about the guy who invented Space Invaders. They showed all the original concept art as well as protype ideas. A very cool documentary. Many of the enemy ships are based upon Japanese Kanji believe it or not.

    But how old was he?

I mean, whoever worked on the game must be like 50 today

EGM did an interview with him a few years back and he is in his 50's. I think they mentioned he was teaching now.

Yes, some are but the others are based on Kanji.

I wonder if the want for SI games will go up.
I've got a few sealed SI carts that I wouldn't mind getting rid of for a reasonable price.

Some are, my dad has a great book I think it's called "X is for horse" where the X represented the Kanji. It's a kids book show they show step by step how the kanji is done and what it means.

Hmm, there are er only 4 ships and unless he is getting to the age where he can't remember things, he stated many times (in words and in the original artwork) that the 3 main aliens are based on crabs, squid and octopus (from the bottom to top) the other is the mothership which er looks like a mothership. I am sure he mentioned HG Wells war of the worlds too (which most Japanese aliens, except those that look like cute women seem to be based on...).

    On another topic...
