Hey Everyone, So it appears the boards are being spammed again. Perhaps we should implement some kind of simple protocol such as "users can only post one message for every day they've been registered on the forums"? Something simple would make it impossible for spam to occur, at least in quick succession? That's just one idea, but I'm sure there are plenty out there (and better ones). Ideally the solution would be some inherent mechanism that wouldn't require moderator attention.
It's being worked on but at the moment ASSEMbler has a lot on. I've just cleaned up all the shit again but I'm on an iPhone so it's slow and not that easy to see everything. If anyone knows where this prick is located please let us know. He can be charges for this. He is ruining the forums for everyone.
It happens in waves as soon as someone finishes code up their spam bots to handle new anti-spam bot technologies.
The report button is a little unfriendly: ...and yet I've had a moderator tell me off-site to report posts such as a sales thread with no proof pics so they (or another mod) can deal with it later. According to the note, the report button shouldn't be used to report rules violations! As for spam, it should be possible to implement flood control for users under x posts (50 would seem a good number, considering we don't want people spamming for marketplace rights!) - then it doesn't annoy the more seasoned members. I've also mentioned potential moderator permissions changes to a couple of mods. I think that the ability to disable user signups is only performable by an admin. In theory, it should be possible to add this to the moderator group, too - and I don't see any harm in giving them access to it. In fact, it would save a lot of headaches considering Kev can't be online 24/7! Worst case you could require all user signups to be validated by Kev, although that's more work for him. Ape - there was a recent deliberate attack by someone with a vendetta who kept signing up with different user names. We're not just talking spambots, we're talking malicious attacks.
