I'll cut to the chase. There's a lot of spam threads lately. Thanks to the moderation team it's under control for the most part, but I will ask, why are they only now appearing in such high frequency? Other than reporting them what is there to do?
Pretty simple, they have to set one more rule. To create a new thread you must have at least 1, 2, 3... or more comments in other threads. Or 1 like.
That would just lead to spam in the comments. More people seem to get mad over necro bumping threads than a spammer starting a new one. Even if they went as far to manually approve every account before the user can post, it would probably just make more workload for staff. The last few forums I was part of where this started to happen the sites were eventually abandoned not long after.
Probably there's an exploit which the forum hasn't been patched with. Sadly none of us have the power to apply the patch (if there is one).
No need for exploits to spam a forum. I'd just make it so under 10 posts can t post threads with links without manual approval.
setting rules might not exactly get rid of the spam bots creating and posting on the forum, there is obviously unprotected entry points of which are not easily capable of being patched or incapable of exploit, long ago I and many of my fellow members saw our scooter forum become flooded with these attacks, there is a handful of methods to patch and restrict, but in the end the best defense along those methods is to have capable members delete when posted.
But penisenlargementbot-v3.7 is. He's here to solva captchas, chew bubblegum and sell you dick pills, and he ran all out of gum 0.0028ms ago...
