    You can improve the display quality with a Sync Strike and CGA2VGA scaler (GBS-8220 HD Converter).

    Both available from ArcadeForge: http://arcadeforge.net/Scaler-and-Strike-Devices:::4.html

    The Sync Strike has RCA jacks; you can use these to connect to a stereo line level amp to boost and clean the audio signal. It has output jacks allowing you to connect to your TV, receiver or amplified speakers.

    Amazon (USA) carries a few of these from different manufactures, here's a link to give you an idea what to look for.

    I've never modded my PS1 with LEDs, but I have used this webpage to calculate the resistor to use with an LED based on the voltage you will be using and the LED.

    LED calculator

    The LED calculator page also has a hyperlink that covers LEDs in a series.

    YouTube as a few LED mods done on the Playstation 1. This modder shows were he sourced the voltage for his LED mod.
