Holy crap... I just upgraded from a set of Sony SA-VE335 HTIB speakers to some Polk Monitors (60+30+CS1) and the difference is  Now I just need to find a good game to crank up...
I got some new speakers (PSB Alpha B1), an integrated stereo amplifier (Marantz PM5004), and a CD player (Marantz CD5004) for Christmas. It's without a doubt the best setup I've ever owned. It's great for music, movies, games, anything. I'm about to watch The Shining on it. My sub is made by Polk Audio. I forget the model number.
The Battlefield series definitely have some great sound design.... Worth trying out just for that even if you're not into those kind of games.
Deus Ex Human Revolution and Fallout 3 are current gen games with awesome, AWESOME audio. With the 5.1 speakers I have, they're quite an experience - and my equipment is really low-end. Also, those two new Batman games.
Running a budget setup right now http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer...lack/1147998.p?id=1218224796804&skuId=1147998 I'm using an Onkyo NR709 receiver with it though. Sound far far better than any other 200 dollar set I've tried.
Running a 2.1 configuration that I bought from......ASDA (walmart) for £12.99!!! These bad boys don't even have a name!! Sound ok though. Can't go nuts with sound anyway due to the neighbours.
I've got a nice stereo and on my pc is the Logitech "thx" 2.1 set. One thing I miss about living with my parents is being able to crank it up (and in the realm of the logitechs, turn up the subwoofer) and bask in the encompassing volume.
