Hi All, I recently purchased a FZ-35S on eBay, that was sold as-is. The unit failed to boot a copy of IMSA racing (stuck at the "Please Wait" screen). The case was missing a few screws, hinting that it had been opened before. Upon further inspection, I noticed someone had put an Benq 56x CD rom in there, manufactured in 2004. As that can't be the original drive, I was wondering what the spec cdrom/dvdrom for the FZ-35S should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did some digging in Google, and found reference to the following drive being original in the FZ-35S: Matsushita Model: SR-8586-B Can anyone please confirm?
Instead of cluttering up the M2 Owners Thread any further, I'll post in here. Quick question: Did you purchase your FZ-35S from a US Ebay seller or was it a Japanese seller? Do you still have a link to the auction that you might be willing to post? The FZ-35S5J units do not come with a hard disk drive while the more often seen FZ-35S1H1M units do.
Oops.. posted again in the owners thread, maybe a mod can replace the postings to this thread? I found one recently sold 5J unit on ebay, maybe it is the one? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300576071661
Unfortunately that link won't come up, it says: This listing () has been removed, or this item is not available. Please check that you've entered the correct item number Listings that have ended 90 or more days ago will not be available for viewing.
@TrailBrake Compare the IDE cable in your and my picture, you have the connectors the other way around on the pcb and the drive. That means you're using part of the cable that is normally used to connect the slave device (harddisk) to connect the DVD drive. Maybe there is some weird twisting in this cable to make it work, it certainly is not a regular flatcable.
Pardon the use of the old 25" TV I have in my office, here is the behaviour I have seen: No Disc: 'Please Insert disk!' with flashing '?' With Disk inserted (imsa racing or 2d shooter'): 'Please Insert Disk!' Drive light flashes for 5 seconds or less, I can hear it spin up and then stop. When I start system with a disk in the drive, it will stay at the 'Please Wait' screen. Drive flashes for less than 5 seconds and stops. This happens with different brands of IDE cdrom drives as well.
What happens when you connect the IDE cable the exact same way as mine? That means, in respect to the last picture; - the connector that is now in de DVD --> pcb - middle connector that is now loose --> DVD - orientation of the red wire --> the same It probably won't work, but you have to try something. Also, you can try different settings of the dip switches?
Switched the ide cable around again, but with the same result I will try different dip switch settings, but that's a lot of combinations.
