incredible how nobody cared for this game O_O and it's on of the most promising in a long time too....
I kinda want to get it, but I just dropped nearly $300 on a GTX 260 black edition video card. Not trying to thread hijack, just saying. I want so many games right now, but I'm dang near broke at the moment.
I've got it. Put in 3 hours so far, just beat the first boss. Pros: Graphics are jaw dropping. Combat is rock solid. Better than Tales of Vesperia. Bonus Board system is very nice. Music is awesome. Cons: It takes forever to get started. I think for the first hour, 10 minutes or so were me NOT watching cutscenes. The characters are "meh". The plot isn't very good yet either. Not sucking me in like ToV and LO. So with initial impressions, it would rank in my 360 JRPG list as such: Lost Odyssey Tales of Vesperia Blue Dragon Star Ocean Last Hope Enchanted Arms Infinite Undiscovery Eternal Sonata (Note: Have not played Last Remnant yet).
Is Eternal Sonata seriously worse then Infinite Undiscovery?? ID just looks fucking horrible whenever I watch people play it. Last Remnant looks kind of hokey too. This Star Ocean is nice looking on the visuals though!
I want to play it, but the fact another great series was stolen from sony makes me cry. I have a 360 deck, but no hookups or controller, so maybe someday.
Eternal Sonata was one of the most painful experiences I ever had playing a game. Incoherent story, retarded characters, painful dialogue, Turn-based/real-time hybrid combat that drug fights out, respawning enemies when you left the room, and horrible dungeon designs. Infinite Undiscovery was lame, yes. But Eternal Sonata fucking sucked.
Alright, if anyone is still wondering: I'm 15.5 hours into the game and so far I'm liking it alright. The combat is REALLY good (better than Tales of Vesperia), the "Bonus Board System" is very nice, and the graphics are stunning. Oh, and the enemies look really cool. Oh, and the "universe" is very well done. On the lukewarm note, the music is OK. Mind you, I'm spoiled by Uematsu's Lost Odyssey/Blue Dragon (sans the hair metal) scores, so... its kind of hard to compete with that. Also, the plot (in general) is OK. I'm almost out of disc 1 and it is still dragging out a bit. I mean, I can see WHERE its going, and it could be neat, but the pacing in the game is just horrible. Now for the bad: Characters are fucking horrible. Just horrible. There is not one character I have encountered in this game yet that I've cared about at all. Likewise, the dialogue is painful. Especially the plethora of 10-20 minute cutscenes where everyone stands around talking. Ugh. I hated that nonsense in Eternal Sonata, and I hate it here. Also, the dungeons are painfully long. I think I spent 2-3 hours in the 3rd or 4th dungeon in the game. And iirc it had like, 2 save spots in it. So painful. So in the end, the game seems to be good if gameplay is your end all be all most important factor in a JRPG. For me, I need a great story, so on that end, Star Ocean The Last Hope falls WAAAAY short of Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.
I still need to play Blue Dragon (i've been holding off on this one for one stupid reason), Tales, Star Ocean, Enchanted Arms, and I want to give the other two a try at least. I've been trying to finish games this past week. Just finished CoD2 on Veteran along with Need For Speed Most Wanted. And I'm working on Dead Space right now...
Oh no achievement points!!! You can get 1000 in that if you really try ont he first playthrough. I haven't got an achievement for a month or something and I'm still alive.
yeah, my friend finished Blue Dragon and ended up with a measly 30 gamer points at the end. if you ask me, even if you don't care about gamer points, that's a joke. you should get at least get around half of the achievements if you play a game all the way through. right?
Yeah, I do agree, I'm just jugglin your balls. I do hate that. My friends passed me in score because a lot of the games I play give me an average of 100-200 vs there average of 400-600. Kind of sucks but whatever. I just hate when I can't get all the points because of whatever reason. Makes me feel unsatisfied, like beating a game on hard for nothing or something. I know there just whatever but still, I viewed them as a progress meter and think they add replay and stuff. I think I played about 3 hours into Blue Dragon and have like 25 or something so yeah. It is possible to get 1k in your first play though. Gotta use a guide though which makes it less fun I think.
i don't like using guides either. well, actually i'll use a guide on a second playthrough of a game, if i feel like there's a lot i missed. sometimes they're good just so you get the most out of the game. Fallout 3 for example, I bought the guide and there was still like a million things i didn't do.
i'll never understand the point of achievements. i always tought it's a matter for child boosting each other like comparing ****
Oh, hahahahaha, I've never heard that one before, man, too funny. I know I compare my dick with kids. I'll be back later, my eyes seem to have rolled to the back of my head.
