The game was annouced for the PlayStation. Was it ever in production? Why was it cancelled? The PlayStation has many high quality sci-fi racing games, like the wipeout series. I think Episode 1 Racer would have been possible on the PSX.
It was in development, and pretty deep in that. It was cancelled however due to the technical limitations present, some say, although others support the view that the engine was up and running, despite notable differences between the PSX and PC/n64 ports. In the end, it might just have been a policy decision. They probably didnt want a chopped-down version with more pop-up (due to limited system RAM). Additionally, the N64 had a steady fan-base of quick racers, such as Extreme G, Wipeout 64, F-zero X and Aero Gauge. Considering how non-standard the controls stood on the n64 pad, a PSX port with that clumsy analog would be hell. All said and done though, although i finished both n64 and PC version, I thought the superior execution was the n64 one+expanion pak.
The arcade Star Wars Racer Arcade was better than them all. I so want one of those machines with the analog throttles for each engine and the big boost button that glows when you have boost. =)
???? This didn't come out for PSX?? I swear I saw it around, wierd! I know it was DC, N64 and DC but wierd.
I have the PC and N64 version. I've played the N64 version a few weeks ago, but the framerate is so low. It's not much fun anymore. Unfortunately I cannot play the PC port anymore. It does not run on my actual PC. So I bought the DC version, which is great. Very smooth framerate and good controls. A PSX port would have been interesting with system link support. I've played the PC version a long time ago with some friends over ethernet. That was a lot of fun.
Yeah, if anything there would be a bigger market on the PSX than the N64 for this kind of game. It must have been a technical limitation that saw the project shelved.
