It's been a long 18 months since I sent the start up wii off to bushing. Quite a lot has happened.

Little of it is of real importance to you. The end of the story is that I no longer feel the need to keep the NAND image from the wii squirreled away on my home server.

I considered doing a fund raiser like some people on the forums are wont to do, but it felt wrong. It isn't really mine to sell.

What's important to me now is the story more than the stuff that goes along with it.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love my signed wii. It is probably one of my most prized gaming pieces. I wouldn't sell it for silly money. However, the NAND is something I can share. So, why not?

(I also came into possession of a second start-up wii main board from a repair center. It is slightly older than mine and does not have any NAND modifications.)

Heads up: I deleted the 00000000.app files from files:
    /wiiflash/title/000000001/00000002/content
    /wiiflash/title/000000001/00000004/content

and replaced it with the 00000000.app from:
    /wiiflash/title/000000001/00000009/content

The reason I removed 2 is because there isn't a .app viewer for Linux and I forget which is which. In the future, I might post one of the removed .app files.

I did this simply so that people would not start producing start up wiis and selling them on ebay. There is just not enough here to make a convincing fake start-up wii.

Please, no rehosting or anything of that nature.

    Enjoy.

So it's the nand image with the interesting files removed?

the full unmodified dump should have 4.5MB in size, just for verification ;)

I bricked a black Wii a while back due to downgrading and not knowing that the IOS had been changed to suit the new builds (I assume cheaper manufacturing). Thankfully it was still in warranty ;)

Was it ever cleared up about Nintendo being able to correct a corrupt NAND by simply running a maintenance disc?

Does the panic boot process extend to all media readers or is it just the SD slot? Then maybe it's just a case of shorting something to set that process going (like when the console crashes with Twilight Princess, etc.)

    Nothing important has been withheld.
I removed 2 of the images that are displayed when the wii is powered on.

I thought the interesting things were the IOSs and such.

Maybe I'll just watermark the .app files and upload them.

I dont think its of huge interest (other than a rarity or as you say, someone trying to make and sell them).

As bricked wiis need an IOS to load anything.

the thought was there was a boot2v0 or v1 that would load from SD card, like bootmii for use in the factory and was then upgraded to the production 2v2,2v3 or 2v4 which stopped that ability.

Once a wii is bricked (and I mean properly bricked, not all the other types of brick the wii scene seems to have invented), there is no way to repair it - unless it has the exploit to run bootmii via boot2 or if you already have a nand backup (or keys).

Unless this image runs on a console as-is without needing reencrypting with the per console keys - its of no use for repairs.

I unbrick them (ones that are boot2 able, or have keys.bin) as I have a "proper" universal programmer.

Means I get them much cheaper than Wii's with broken drives AND they end up working 100% so get the most money back.

Shame business died off after the Wii U was announced, was a good little earner.

I have a full list of EUR serial numbers with the matching date code from the hollywood chip and if they are capable of having bootmii as boot2 (and therefore unbrickable).

The serials wont help much, but date codes will still be useful in the US.

    Link is here:
    http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/112-Wii-Boot2-compatible-serial-number-List

Anything in green (in my list, see post #2) is unbrickable.
