On my way to Tokyo for work but have couple of free days. Any recommendations for gaming (old and new), beer, books and toy stores?

Still worth a visit in Akihabara: "Friends" game shop (not necessarily for the prices but for the atmosphere), top floor of Try Arcade for retro and Hey Arcade for a good mix of old and new.

Books? What kind of books? Standard recommendation: Kinokuniya in Shinjuku for the size. Kanda area for used books.

Shinjuku is fine for beer. Loads of options.

Yeah I said books then realised they'd all be Japanese. But still, old books kind of fun. Technical books; maybe a store that sells technical documentation for old consoles... pretty esoteric but who knows in this town

Good luck with that. The old ゲームラボ (Game Labo) magazines from the 80s and 90s are fun to browse through for some nerdy hard- and software hacks.

I wish there was a store specialising in old game magazines.

Went to various shops around Akihabara. Fave was actually super potato; yes, prices generally ridic but picked up a like-new VB game for $13 (bomberman).
Atari Jaguar prices particularly cray. Trader 3 had some $1 N64 carts...
Very little to no 64DD items for sale.
